Mandalorian & Grogu just made the galaxy a lot prettier and a lot more perilous. Lucasfilm and Disney released the first look at the much-awaited Star Wars movie, the first one in seven years, yes, seven!
Unveiled at Star Wars Celebration Tokyo, fans got a glimpse of some action-packed teasers featuring Pedro Pascal as the galaxy's favorite helmeted dad, cutting down stormtroopers like it was a "bring-your-kid-to-battle day."
We can see Pedro Pascal playing with the little Grogu on stage! Within an AT-AT, pandemonium erupts as Mando dispatches more than a dozen foes before crashing the bash in the cockpit. Meanwhile, Grogu is presumably somewhere, judging everyone with those big, expressive eyes.
This Star Wars movie spins off from Disney+'s The Mandalorian and is already turning out to be the Force-fueled family road trip we didn't know we needed. Lightsabers? No. Vibes? Immaculate. May 2026 cannot come soon enough. As soon as the news came out, someone took to their X account and commented:
"What kind of boots are those"
After all the mind-blowing Star Wars news, clips, and new characters, the one thing that actually stole the show? Pedro Pascal's boots. That's right. One keen-eyed fan on X couldn't help but comment, "What kind of boots are those? " Forget Grogu, forget the enigmatic new characters, this is the style moment we never anticipated.
While everyone was freaking out about the Mandalorian movie and Sigourney Weaver's mysterious questions, Pascal's shoes were the ones getting the internet all abuzz about whether they were custom-made by the Force itself.
Who would have thought that the galaxy's most epic battles would be overshadowed by a killer pair of boots? Perhaps we should all begin paying more attention to what's on our feet, and less to the lightsabers.
Even before the dust could settle from the Mandalorian & Grogu announcement, the fans were already in complete meltdown mode, digitally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Between surprise guest appearances, Force-strong toddlers, and Pedro Pascal's now-legendary boots, the internet didn't have a chance. The trailer was maybe mere minutes long, but the reactions? Forever. From tear-filled professions of love to full-blown, unhinged theories that would make Yoda raise an eyebrow, the fandom had them.
So hold on tight, because the comments are in, the memes are pouring in, and the reactions are more over-the-top than a Sith at a family reunion.
Netizens react as Pedro Pascal goes viral for playing with Grogu at Star Wars Celebration
Some fans took the news seriously, not by taking it seriously at all. In a matter of minutes, the internet was filled with jokes, edits, and pandemonium one-liners. Some people obviously came just to make noise and memes, and in all honesty, they did not disappoint.
Now the comment section is less "Star Wars discourse" and more "galactic comedy club:"
"Grogu’s got backup.. Sigourney’s flying in with serious vibes!," a user @songoku_OG_ hilariously commented.
"To be fair, it’s probably the first time he’s actually interacted with the puppet," another user @chaseshake hilarioulsy commented.
"I totally forgot this movie was a thing," a netizen @JP_Bongiovanni sarcastically expressed.
Pedro Pascal stepped out on stage, and suddenly, talk about Jedi was turned upside down, into a conversation about jacket lore. People were absolutely surprised by what he wore, gazing at those boots as if they were carrying the universe's secrets. Jokes started flying fast, like the internet agreed he was less Mandalorian and more a space-dwelling style icon.
Somehow, the surprise was not even in the trailer; it was in Pedro's closet:
"crazy fit," a user @humidfluid hilariously commented.
"This choice of outfit by Pedro Pascal bro," another user @iDragonHeartz hilariously commented.
"Seems Pedro Pascal is wearing the "Mom just called and needs help with bringing in the groceries" fit," a netizen @UnoptimizedFool sarcastically commented.
The peanut gallery was out in rare form, making Pedro Pascal's wardrobe and the on-film footage an actual commentary session. Some were still trying to wrap their minds around the head-spinning new Star Wars shots when others were utterly obsessed with his jacket, like that was the actual plot point.
From critiquing every button on his jacket to arguing over Grogu's next big action, the comment section was a wild mix of fashion critiques and plot speculation, because clearly, both were equally relevant in this galaxy:
"Wait.. it's not CGI," a user @phan_xyz hilariously commented.
"Is Pedro even on set lmao?," another user @sycamoressource hilariously commented.
"Wtf is he wearing lmfao," another netizen @whenmo0n sarcastically commented.
"Who told him to use those boots with that outfit?," a netizen @Kevin_Keyblade sarcastically wrote.
The Mandalorian & Grogu: First footage unveiled for fans at celebration
At Star Wars Celebration, Jon Favreau gave fans a sneak peek at The Mandalorian & Grogu, though he made it clear this wasn’t quite a proper trailer, more of a "hold on, we’re not ready yet" preview.
The film featured some fantastically epic action: Mando fighting Flame Troopers like it's a terrible day at the office, AT-ATs crashing over in the snow like snowmen, and a mysterious character played by Sigourney Weaver who's somehow employing Mando for a job that's decidedly more insane than anything he ever signed up for.
And then, of course, there's Grogu, who seems to be using his Force powers to levitate everything in front of him, not just a person, but objects, and in a nice bit of continuity, even a droid, why not? In a surprise nobody could have anticipated, Grogu's also shown that he can swim, and pretty much eliminates the "he just sits there being cute" trope.
The action seems to be occurring on an icy world, adding that extra bit of chill to the chaos. With all the explosions, levitating moments, and snowy drama, the movie’s shaping up to be a wild ride. We’ll have to wait until May 22, 2026, to see how it all comes together, but we’re pretty sure Grogu’s going to steal the show, and maybe a few more droids along the way.
The movie will be in IMAX.
Star Wars: Starfighter is also announced
Also unveiled at Star Wars Celebration, in addition to the much-anticipated Mandalorian & Grogu preview, was the exciting news that Star Wars: Starfighter is a go! To be helmed by Deadpool's Shawn Levy, the film will begin production this fall.
Shawn Levy spilled the beans that the movie is a solo outing shot a couple of years after The Rise of Skywalker, but don't get too comfortable on your plush pillow, forget you ever heard, you can basically forget all you've been hearing rumor-mongering wise, because most of it is far from accurate.
The twist? Ryan Gosling is in this intergalactic adventure. The star popped up on the stage, and there was an emotional moment when he told us that his mom had sent him a picture of his childhood Star Wars bed sheet when he was cast. He said:
"As you can see from the picture, I guess I was probably dreaming about Star Wars before I even saw the film. And it's probably framed my idea of what a movie even was"
No prequels, no sequels, just a completely new book in a previously unexplored corner of the Star Wars universe. Star Wars: Starfighter will hit the shelves on May 28, 2027, and it's safe to say, fans are waiting for a new generation of the galaxy far, far away, especially if it means Ryan Gosling.
Ultimately, Pedro Pascal continues to show that he's the real MVP of the Star Wars universe, whether he's fighting Flame Troopers, wrangling Grogu's latest antics, or just existing as the most charming guy in the galaxy. It's not his uniform or his boots that are making eyes pop out; it's the way that he infuses a special mixture of grit and heart into Mando's character.
His fusion of intense action sequences and dad-like affection towards Grogu is all the fans can handle. So, as we prepare for the next Star Wars installment, one thing's certain: Pedro's got the galaxy in his hands, boots or not.
