‘Overhype much’—Fans poke fun as “SINNERS” live-performance scene was filmed in one day with a 65-pound IMAX cam

It’s not every day that a movie gets roasted for working too hard with a 65-pound IMAX camera but hey, the internet never sleeps.

In the latest round of film-Twitter chaos, SINNERS, the hotly debated movie on everyone’s feed (whether they like it or not), sparked fresh online snark. Why? Because apparently, a full-blown, high-stakes live-performance scene was filmed in one single day using a 65-pound IMAX camera on a steadicam. Yep, 65 pounds. That’s like strapping a small child and a microwave to your chest while running a marathon.

The internet can’t handle the IMAX one-take flex

The buzz began when the film’s team proudly shared that the scene hyped as a seamless “oner” (a single, unbroken shot) took months of preparation, with every department involved in mapping it out. The camera operator? Probably now in traction.

The caption read:

“It took months of prep before shooting the scene, every department working together, mapping it out.”

And while that sounds impressive and it honestly is the internet just wasn’t having it.

Within minutes, the quote tweet game was strong, and fans (and certified haters) chimed in with a whole mix of sass, eye-rolls, and popcorn-worthy shade.

People weren’t exactly handing out Oscars. If anything, it felt more like a group roast at open mic night.

One user deadpanned:

“Overhype much?”

Another chimed in with:

“It's not a popular opinion but this movie was a mess.”

Someone else begged the timeline for peace:

“Please stop discussing this film.”

And then came the sarcastic digs aimed at the marketing itself. You know it’s bad when even the hype gets hate. A user said:

“How much you get paid to spam this overrated flick?”

It didn’t stop there. Some folks were deeply unimpressed by the whole “months of prep” angle. Like this one gem that summed up the general vibe:

“Months of prep just to make it look like one take?”

That’s the thing with the internet you can spend months planning a cinematic masterpiece, and people will still respond like you just reinvented the toaster.

It’s also worth mentioning the real hero here: the steadicam operator. The poor guy hauling around 65 pounds IMAX like a human tripod while trying not to trip over a mic cable. He deserves his own Oscar, a spa day, and a lifetime supply of chiropractor visits.

Was it technically impressive? Sure.

Did it win the internet’s heart? Absolutely not.

If anything, this whole saga proves that no matter how well-crafted your movie magic is, the online crowd is undefeated when it comes to side-eyes and sarcasm. They’ll break down your camera stats faster than they’ll watch the actual film.

Still, it’s kind of beautiful in its own way. The film world flexes. The internet shrugs. And somewhere, the guy carrying that IMAX rig is wondering if it was all worth it.

(Spoiler: it probably wasn’t.)
