Rihanna just flipped the switch on her Instagram profile picture. The ever-iconic "Rhenna" doodle has returned—only now, she’s serving full Smurfette realness. Rihanna’s stick-figure alter ego just got a blue-tiful upgrade, perfectly timed to promote her upcoming role in the Smurfs reboot.
Fans have wasted no time flooding the comments with reactions and the meme game is on.
An x (formerly Twitter) user:
"Only Rihanna can do something this random and we all just accept it"
A user joked:
"Please lord, give us R9 before we have to endure Smurfs 10 😩😭"
Another added:
"She's so unserious i love her 😭😭😭"
A user employed a perfectly timed Beyoncé meme:
A user went on to say:
"she doing everything except release an album"
A user highlighted:
"she's had the pfp since i was in HS damn"
A user thinks:
"This is what happens when you give your toddler the aux cord and the art supplies."
A comment read:
"Thought this was a album announcement"
A decade of "Rhenna": The internet's favorite stick figure
For almost ten years, Rihanna’s Instagram profile pic wasn’t a selfie, a Fenty promo, or some artsy photoshoot—it was a humble stick figure.
Affectionately nicknamed “Rhenna,” this doodle became as iconic as her Navy fanbase itself.
It all started as a nod to a bizarre YouTube series called Nek Menij—because of course, Rihanna would take meme culture and turn it into an aesthetic.
But in 2024, she briefly swapped it out for a Fenty Beauty promo image, and fans had a minor meltdown. The switch was temporary, but it proved one thing: people love Rhenna.
Smurfette makeover: Blue era activated
Now, the legendary doodle has returned, but this time, she’s rocking Smurfette’s signature blue hue, golden locks, and that classic white dress.
The transformation wasn’t just a random artistic choice. The timing syncs up perfectly with the upcoming trailer for the Smurfs reboot, where Rihanna is set to voice Smurfette herself.
And she teased the update in advance, posting “in my blue era” days before making the switch.
Rihanna’s Smurfs era
Rihanna isn’t just showing up to the Smurf village, dropping a few lines, and heading home, she’s also producing the film. She’s writing and recording original music for the soundtrack.
This marks her first big musical project since Lift Me Up, her 2022 contribution to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. Before that, it had been years since she blessed us with a full album (Anti, 2016, still undefeated).

Rihanna isn’t the only A-lister making a comeback to the animated big screen. The film also features Natasha Lyonne, Nick Offerman, James Corden, and Amy Sedaris, among others. Set to drop on July 18, the Smurfs reboot is shaping up to be a fresh, modern take on the classic animated franchise.
