Facebook, the giant social media that changed the dimensions of people connected online, just turned 21 today. Indeed, Mark Zuckerberg's dorm project is now legally old enough to walk into any bar and ask for a drink. While most would celebrate with champagne, the internet had other ideas.

For a platform that's been called "dead" more times than anyone can count, Facebook has still managed to stir up reactions. People didn't waste any time roasting the birthday boy with jokes about its age, relevance, and well, its very existence. Let's be real, when was the last time someone under 30 actually made a Facebook post?

Facebook's 21st Birthday: The Roast of the Year

When the news of Facebook’s big day hit, the internet reacted in the only way it knows how: through memes and jokes. What was once the ultimate hub for college students has, of course, devolved into a digital scrapbook for boomers, family group chats, and people you went to high school with but never talked to. And that’s exactly why the jokes practically wrote themselves.

One viral post summed it up perfectly: “Facebook older than the majority of people on the internet these days 😭.” The fact that Gen Z has grown up without ever needing to create a Facebook profile really hits differently.

Another user quipped, “Wow, FB can finally turn up with the boys 🔥.” Because let’s face it if Facebook were a person, it would probably be that one guy who peaked in high school and still talks about the good old days.

Some took a more direct approach: “You mean Facebook can walk into a bar now?”

And of course, there was the classic “It’s been drunk for years and everybody knows it.”

If the past few years of chaotic algorithm changes and questionable privacy policies have taught us anything, it's that the platform had its fair share of questionable decisions.

Perhaps the most brutal comment? “Facebook may be 21, but it died years ago.” Ouch. Someone check on Zuckerberg.

For all the jokes, there’s no denying that Facebook still holds a weirdly sentimental place in people’s hearts. Sure, we’ve all moved on to Instagram, TikTok, and whatever new platform Gen Alpha is cooking up, but Facebook was the OG.

It was where we posted our cringiest teenage thoughts, poked friends for no reason, and wrote on each other’s walls like we were signing yearbooks.

Now? It’s mostly where parents share minion memes and tag you in blurry pictures from family gatherings. And yet, we all keep coming back, whether to stalk an old classmate or check in on that one aunt who overshares way too much.

So, is Facebook officially an adult? Technically, yes. But does it still feel like a platform stuck in a mid-life crisis? Also yes. While its glory days might be behind it, Facebook isn’t going anywhere just yet. Love it or roast it, we all have at least one reason to keep coming back even if it's just to see how many of our friends are still active.

Happy birthday, Facebook. Maybe go easy on the drinks, you’ve been through enough.
