In this day and age, almost all of us *loathe* commuting, especially when it's going to work.
But, fret no more! X user @raynefq posted a tweet on X showing that you can use being "late" as an excuse to be late to work with just one picture!
The iconic subway meme
The meme that @raynefq posted on X is funny because a lot of the people who relate to the meme can use the meme—even if their boss doesn't believe that they're stuck in the subway. Moreover, the meme became popular because well, most of us don't want to go to work! We just want to be cuddled by our comforter, not worrying about the hassle of commuting. The reason the subway meme was posted is to help employees have a truthful alibi in case they will use it!
The Subway Meme: Used by eVERYONE
X users quickly used the image, and guess what, it (somewhat) became successful to their bosses.
Others created scenarios so that they could use the excuse and the photo, too!
Some hilariously cropped the image to their liking—making it more efficient to their bosses that they are seriously and truthfully running late!
Some also asked for the OP (original poster) to edit the photo so it would look like their very own subway/train line.
"Sorry, can you get me one that looks like the London Underground?" - a user said
For some, it is humorous and funny, but others are reminded that an iPhone photo can be easily located, thus, your boss knows that you're lying!
"Nice!! Unluckily, iPhone lets you see the location, time and coordinates in which the picture was taken. Sorry." - one user remarked
"Hard to lie to ur boss.. when the MTA site is updated every 1 minute with train delays and stoppages.." - one user reminded
Even if some X users are not New Yorkers, they will still use the photo as an excuse if ever they're late! Location be damned!
"I don’t even live in NY, but will use it. Thanks, you’re doing gods work." - an X user replied
"Me sending this pic to my boss while living in the az suburbs." - another one added
"Sending this to my boss even though I live in a town in Florida with no public transportation." - one remarked
"Going to try it next time in North Dakota." - another one said
The photo unites all the latecomers at work! Some edited the photo so that others outside New York could use the image.
Others quickly grasped the image and suggested that if ever you said this excuse to your boss, just say that you're solving the trolley problem.
Even if the X users are not in New York, some still use it and their bosses suddenly become confused because they're from a different country.
"I’ve sent it to my boss and he said what the actual f**k am I doing in NY since we live in Russia tho.." - one said
On the downside, some users used the photo and the excuse but their boss knew better.
"My boss just told me that we don’t even have a subway in the city, guys what do I do??" - one asked for help
"Directions unclear. I tried this but I don’t live in a city with a subway / train so it didn’t work. Please be clearer next time I almost got fired." - another one shared
"Showed this to my boss and he said "that doesn't look like the subway that we have in our country." - one replied
Why is the photo making waves?
Well, even if it looks like a typical subway photo, some social media users dread work and commute on a daily, saying that they're tired and that working remotely is better because it's more efficient, and time-saving, and they have work and life balance!
Advice to the bosses? Well, listen to their employees' suggestions and make it easier for them to enjoy work! It doesn't hurt for them to be more empathetic towards their workers. And as for the employees, please, be responsible for your work and communicate your thoughts clearly with your boss, because just like the old saying, communication is key!
Your perspective matters!
