Nicole Kidman has finally reacted to the viral 2001 meme of her gleefully walking outside, visibly joyous, moments after her divorce was supposedly finalized. However, the actress has since revealed that it was not accurate.
Speaking with British GQ for her Men of the Year cover story, which came out on Monday, the Oscar-winner revealed:
"That’s not true. That was not me. That was from a film. That wasn’t real life. I know that image!”
However, the actress failed to mention just which film she was shooting for at the time.
More about Nicole Kidman's marriage with Tom Cruise
In the viral image, Nicole Kidman can be seen clad in a pink, see-through, patterned top, some green capris, and matching sneakers. Her red hair is tied up and her hands are in the air as she trots down the hill, visibly ecstatic.
Notably, the meme went ultra-viral just this year when Jenna Dewan took to her Instagram stories to upload it, signifying the end of her and ex-husband Channing Tatum's rocky divorce.
The Perfect Couple alum, now 57, tied the knot with Tom Cruise in 1990. However, the two parted ways after about 11 years. During their time together, they adopted two children, Bella, who is now 31, and Connor, now 29.
In a 2012 interview with DuJour magazine, Nicole Kidman noted when Cruise moved to dissolve their marriage, it came as a "shock to her." She said at the time:
"I thought our life together was perfect. It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system.”
However, speaking to Vanity Fair in 2013, Cruise shared little about his reasoning:
"She knows why, and I know why [we divorced]. She’s the mother of my children, and I wish her well. And I think that you just move on. And I don’t say that lightly. I don’t say that with anything. Things happen in life, and you do everything you can, and in every possible way, and there’s a point at which you just sometimes have to face the brutal reality.”
Cruise went on to wed, and subsequently divorce, Katie Holmes, while Kidman found love with her now-husband, country singer Keith Urban. The two got hitched in 2006, and they have two daughters: Sunday, 16, and Faith, 13.
In the same interview with GQ, Nicole Kidman opened up about struggling with her mortality. She divulged that she often finds herself waking up in the middle of the night, afraid. She attributed it to just how hard life can be sometimes, as well as losing your parents. She also noted that raising kids and marriage sometimes takes a toll on her.
