It was a great day for comic book fans around the world as DC dropped the trailer for the new Superman movie on December 19. Helmed by acclaimed director James Gunn, the movie will see David Corenswet as the new man of steel.
The trailer especially left older fans of the franchise feeling nostalgic, as they got to hear a remastered version of the music from the original 1978 Superman movie starring Christopher Reeve. (via X / @CultureCrave)
The trailer received mixed reviews but mostly positive, with most excited about the movie. While fans were happy to see the new costume, the super dog, the remastered OG music, etc., one particular scene from the trailer has left the internet in splits.
The opening scene from the trailer, featuring Superman lying on the snow injured, had fans notice a striking similarity to another scene from the popular anime Dragonball Z. The scene features Yamcha, who is widely considered one of the weakest characters in the Dragonball Z universe, dying while fighting a weak enemy without even putting up half a decent fight.
The similarity of the two scenes had fans from both franchises cracking up and debating whether the new Superman would be a much weaker version compared to all of the previous portrayals.
Hilarious fan reactions
While the resemblance with Yamcha's viral death pose has fans cackling, there have been several other funny reactions to the new trailer. Let's take a look at some of them.
1) Krypto the Superdog
While the appearance of Krypto the Superdog has stirred excitement among comic book fans, many found the idea of having a super-powered dog funny, as can be seen in this post by X user @royal_bobby24 showing Superman getting dragged through the snow by Krypto.
2) New Superman approved
Many fans have found the new Superman universe to be better looking than the previous one already, as seen in this post using the photo of the previous actor who played Superman - Henry Cavill giving his nod of approval.
3) Indestructible?
Another common reaction has been people's confusion over why Superman is seen bleeding in the trailer since he is supposed to be invulnerable and have healing powers, as hilariously pointed out by X user @DABsIam.
While the trailer has certainly stirred a few debates over some of the choices made in the film, it has certainly gotten fans talking and looking forward to seeing how the new actor-director combo takes on this historical Superhero franchise.
