President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will be launching his very own Solana meme coin known as $TRUMP. The move comes just three days before he is slated to be sworn into office.

"My NEW Official Trump Meme is HERE! It’s time to celebrate everything we stand for: WINNING! Join my very special Trump Community. GET YOUR $TRUMP NOW," his statement on X read.

News of the same has since been going viral on X, drawing the attention of hundreds. Some users could not help but point out that Trump's latest move could be nothing but a rerun of what happened to Haley "Hawk Tuah" Welch. The latter is notorious for having launched her own meme coin, though all of it came crashing down within a few hours of its release.

Here's how one reacted, for example:

"hawk tuah 2.0."

The reactions didn't end there, as users were visibly teeming with opinions:

"Did Donald Trump… The upcoming president of the United States… On the night of the inaugural crypto ball… Launch a meme coin… This is either the greatest hack of all time or it is only going to get so much more ridiculous this entire cycle. I have no idea what to believe anymore," one user pointed out.
"Fantastic, Mr. President. You should get some Captain America Memes of yourself made. I think you deserve to be associated with such an amazing comicbook hero since you're literally out here fighting all the bad guys," someone else jokingly suggested.
"I have no clue abt memecoins but I think it's time I start," another claimed.

Scores online had a lot to say, though notably, many were under the impression that Donald Trump's X account may have gotten hacked:

"account better be hacked," someone demanded.
"Even the crypto bros are shaking their heads. Going to be a fun year," another pointed out, albeit sarcastically.
"3 hours ago and I've already missed out. Buy now and get hawk tuahed," yet another echoed.

Scores online were visibly baffled upon learning the news, with some suggesting that it may even be a scam. Others, however, lauded the next president, noting that he has yet to be sworn into office and is already making strides.

All we know about Trump's latest endeavour in the world of finance: is it bogus or the real deal?

Per Decrypt, upon the launch of the meme coin, Degen traders wasted no time in buying in, driving up the trading volume by hundreds of millions of dollars. Nonetheless, security experts still remain vigilant about the cryptocurrency. However, given that the news came from an official Donald Trump account, it seems less likely that the President-elect's account was hacked.

Following the announcement, the value of the meme coin jumped by 300% in the first three minutes, Crypto Briefing has reported. Trading volumes soared as high as $1 billion, while the token trading clocked in at $8.5 at press time. According to Crypto Times, while the coin initially had 200 million tokens at its launch, it is expected to skyrocket to 1 billion in the next three years.

News of the same first broke out on Donald Trump's official platform, Truth Social, where he urged everyone to head to GetTrumpMemes, the official website for the meme coin. There, users would be allowed to purchase tokens.

Not long after the announcements broke out, Donald Trump announced on his own platform that he would be nominating Peggy Schwinn as the new US Deputy Secretary of Education.
