For a while now, TikTok has been a hot topic in the press. President Donald Trump's executive order momentarily improved the platform's circumstances after the U.S. ban was briefly enforced on January 19.
Nonetheless, there are still a lot of obstacles facing the Beijing-based video app owned by ByteDance which believes that the app, TikTok is worth almost over $200 billion. Because the app is still unavailable on Google Play and the Apple App Store, users are having trouble downloading or reinstalling it on their devices.
According to the reports, the U.S. government is allegedly creating a plan to save TikTok that involves using software giant Oracle and a group of outside investors to effectively take control of the app's international operations. However, Trump cleared the rumors and said he didn't talk with the Oracle. Trump told the reporters on Air Force One during a flight to Florida:
"I have spoken to many people about TikTok and there is great interest in TikTok... No, not with Oracle. Numerous people are talking to me, very substantial people, about buying it and I will make that decision probably over the next 30 days. Congress has given 90 days. If we can save TikTok, I think it would be a good thing."
ByteDance would retain a share in TikTok under the White House's proposed agreement, but Oracle, which already supports TikTok's online infrastructure, would be in charge of data gathering and software updates, according to Reuters.
There are also speculations that Microsoft is also in the list for buying Tiktok. Although it is still unclear if it is true. In 2020, Microsoft attempted to purchase TikTok alongside Oracle and Walmart; Bill Gates referred to this as a "poisoned chalice."
TikTok users are so hopeless that they have started calling 911 - not for emergencies, but because life is so difficult without the app. They are confronted with the painful fact that their source of happiness has disappeared with each attempt to replenish their feed.
No excitement appears to be generated, even when there is good news about TikTok's return. Until the app comes back, they meander around life like depressed emojis, searching their phones for a spark that just does not exist. A netizen (@venividiperii) commented:
"This sounds like out of the pan and into the fire"
So basically the user, @venividiperii trying to say that it's similar to trying to flee a difficult circumstance only to find yourself in the middle of a more serious catastrophe. You're caught in a vicious cycle of disappointment, seeing the flame of hope extinguish before you can swipe again, even if you thought you were getting your TikTok fix back!
Social media is exploding with netizens' comments regarding this news. Let me walk you through some of the netizens' comments!
Here's how netizens have reacted as the US government discussed the TikTok purchase with various folks
Someone (@Angelica_Reed1) on X wrote that she had high hopes for Mr. Beast:
"thought Mr. beast was going to buy it"
Another one (@Paradox_EP) commented:
"Microsoft doesn’t need to own a social media app. They gonna make a subscription to use TikTok"
A netizen identified as @jamesbaratheon wrote:
"Yes. I can’t wait until it’s just like Microsoft teams"
Another user named @Kella2010 expressed in X:
"Microsoft!? Windows is a mess half the time. Many have been just crapping on Xbox. And they want Microsoft to be in charge of TikTok!? That app is doomed. Sorry for anyone who likes it"
A folk (@Plainswalker997) commented:
"Yea i don’t think i want Microsoft owning it either i’d rather it was someone like Elon"
A netizen (@JinxJJ9) wrote:
"It’s not worth over $50B"
A user (@beast_dryllx) hilariously wrote on X:
"200 billion?!!!!!.. that's the net worth of @elonmask"
Another netizen named @Adrian00071730 hilariously commented:
"TikTok is gonna get hacked if they sell it to these too"
So this is how netizens have reacted. Internet users are already imagining the catastrophe that would occur if Microsoft were to acquire TikTok; some are certain that it would become like Xbox, with slow updates and unexpected failures.
As though they were afraid he might just put it into space next, one user even brought up the fact that TikTok is worth $200 billion, which is the same as Elon Musk's net worth! It's reasonable to say that there are a lot of options on the internet, none of which are especially encouraging.
Ultimately, TikTok users find themselves trapped in an intense thriller with more narrative twists than they can cope with. The comments on the internet will undoubtedly be more interesting than the app itself, regardless of whether it is rescued or doomed!
