After months of anticipation, Paramount has finally dropped the trailer for Mission: Impossible - The Last Reckoning, and it has taken the internet by storm. The upcoming movie could well prove to be the last dance for Tom Cruise, but he looks as sprightly as ever in the trailer- jumping off aircraft carriers, diving underwater into freezing oceans, clinging to planes mid-flight, and, of course, doing a whole lot of running.

The movie promises to be a spectacle and is set to light up the theatres on May 23, 2025.

New Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning trailer sends fans into a frenzy

Tom Cruise is back to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt, and as ever, the trailer shows his full range of daredevilry on display. After the first trailer was released back in Nov 2024, this was the second trailer that has been dished up by Paramount. The trailer is spectacular, and the nostalgia bait is real- the trailer pays homage to a number of iconic stunts of previous Mission: Impossible movies gone by.

Or maybe the filmmakers are just messing with us. Either way, ladies and gentlemen, Tom Cruise is back, and this time he’s asking us to trust him one last time. The trailer sparked a wave of bend-bending hilarity on social media as fans flocked to give their two cents on the trailer:

"Tom cruise gonna be jumping off planes until he’s 90", joked one fan (via X / @BSmakemup)
"As soon as I saw my boy running through that forest I said yeah this is gonna be good", quipped another (via X / @slickmontanaa)

If Tom is not running, can it even be considered a mission? Tom Cruise's running is the one constant that the franchise has been built on, and if you see a still of him running through a forest, you can bet your house that the movie’s gonna slap. He is the human equivalent of a Duracell Bunny; the man just doesn't get tired of running.

This has led to theories on social media that he's a vampire, as he just seems to be perpetually sprinting toward his next adventure. Tom's been doing this for so long that the franchise Mission: Impossible has become synonymous with his name, and fans just can't imagine one without the other.

Fans are out here predicting that Tom will still be going strong in 2050, and suggesting possible names for the coming movies:

"Waiting for Mission Impossible X: Just One More Reckoning", joked one fan (via X / @cryptomuse)
"Mission Impossible XII: Senior Bingo Fallout", quipped another (via X / @jonjazz45man)

Another talking point from the trailer of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning was the appearance of Trammel Tillman, the actor who played Mr. Milchick in Severance. Fans were pleasantly surprised to see him in the trailer but had some demands for him:

"If he doesn’t do a weird dance while staring directly into the camera then I’m out", one fan chimed in (via X / @ingelramdecoucy)

Another fan even hilariously penned a name for him:

"Code name milkshake"

While most fans reveled in the chaos of the announcement, others begged Paramount to let Ethan Hunt ride off into the sunset with his limbs intact:

"Ok, one last time, but that's it. Let's wrap this up before it becomes, "Mission Impossible: The Final Fracture", quipped one fan (via X / @Just_Pele)

Another fan came up with the absurd theory that Tom Cruise was going to be replaced in Mission: Impossible by none other than Kevin Hart or Jack Black:

"Sad to see your character die off hopefully the next mission impossible series with kevin hart and jack black is as good as yours was", commented the fan (via X / @mask_bastard)

Tom Cruise's dedication to his craft is nothing to be scoffed at, and his commitment to absurd stunts is the closest thing we have to real-life superheroes. Even as the curtains fall (possibly) on the Mission: Impossible franchise, we would still be on board to let Tom Cruise drag us through another absurd mission!
