The new Thunderbolts* movie is lowkey cooking, and new stills just dropped, giving us more of the anti-hero team. One of the most intriguing characters is Taskmaster, who is played by Olga Kurylenko. She's hardly been seen in the trailers (suspiciously), but a new still of her looking business-like just hit the internet.
The internet immediately started roasting. Some are positive she's gonna get bodied in the first five minutes, others are making this their final reason not to go watch the movie, and then the Taskmaster purists—who are literally fighting for their life in comments, cursing the dodgy helmet and costume.
People at this point don't know whether to be excited or worried.
A user (@RPOIII) commented:
"Probably will be killed off in the first 20 mins of the movie lol."
That’s generous, we were thinking 10.
A user (@MNav4gator) added:
"I like the tactical look, but it's not convincing me to see this movie."
Tactical drip can only do so much.
Poking fun, a user (@hatenagscreens) highlighted:
"You had one job Disney. A guy in a cape suit with a cool skull mask."
Capes and skulls were too much work, we guess.
A user (@ProphetBrendan) went on to say:
"The mcu design got worse. Just make this “taskmaster” her own character and bring in Tony Masters as Taskmaster. The mcu Taskmaster is a hollow shell of Taskmaster."
This is just Task-intern at best.
A user (@Rigby_The_Gamer) simply declared:
"I'm sorry but that's not the Real Taskmaster."
MCU’s Taskmaster is Temu version.
One user (@BasedLEDA) quipped:
"I don't understand mcu's motives in keeping this made up taskmaster."
Gotta keep the brand confusion alive.
A user (@DiehardknicksPC) speculated:
"Right before she... well you know."
Pulls a classic Marvel one-and-done.
Taskmaster's return inThunderbolts*
Taskmaster received a full-scale MCU reimagination, replacing the original comic iteration with General Dreykov's daughter, Antonia Dreykov.
Rather than the sassy, charming mercenary fans were accustomed to, the character was made into a silent, affectless brawler, which didn't necessarily win over everyone.
Now, Thunderbolts* is giving Taskmaster a second chance, pairing her with a team of anti-heroes such as Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, and John Walker.
The new appearance is darker and more menacing, sporting a shiny black suit and white mask closer to the comics but with a contemporary twist.
Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Taskmaster won't last long.
Some believe the character could get eliminated early in order to raise the stakes and pressure the team to come together.
If it does happen, it could even pave the way for the original Taskmaster, Anthony Masters, to finally appear and bring back the witted, strategic mastermind viewers have been clamoring for.
Thunderbolts* is set to hit big screens on May 2, 2025.
