Disney's latest live-action adaptation of Snow White arrived at theaters to much fanfare over the weekend. But it has struggled to live up to expectations in a massive way, as it opened with a mere $43 million domestically and $87.3 million globally. The live-action movie was expected to rake in north of $100 million globally, especially considering the great ensemble and the hype surrounding the movie.

Fans react hilariously as Snow White disappoints big time at the Box Office

Disney shelled out more than $250 million on the movie—half of which was spent on CGI dwarves, which did a tremendous job of alienating real-life dwarves in the country, with all of them screaming in unison against the movie.

The other half was spent on marketing that ultimately came back to bite the makers, as families stayed home, teens opted for the latest superhero flick, and even the die-hard Disney adults gave it a skip.

When the live-action movie finally hit theaters on March 21, social media erupted with a mix of praise, bewilderment, and outright trolling. Fans were left baffled at how the movie could have performed so much worse than expected, as many refused to believe the numbers:

"$200M budget and an $87.3M opening? That math ain't mathing…", wondered one fan (via X / @DoskyMetaXX)
"Is this amount good or bad?" questioned another fan (via X / @debayo_xx)

While fans may be in denial about the movie's box office performance, they did not let this fact deny them the opportunity to cook up conspiracy theories.

While some argued that Disney was intentionally underreporting the numbers to give the movie a "cult-classic" feel, others tried to use humor as a coping mechanism. Fans came up with hilarious alternative names for the live-action movie, which had the internet in splits:

"Snow White and the 7 figure loss," joked one fan (via X / @Joker78RPM)
"Snow White and The Seven Feet Hole it dug itself into," quipped another (via X / @BottlesTheMole)

However, the award for the most creative title goes to someone else, who won the hearts of the netizens hands down with this post:

"Snow White and The Seven people in the seats," suggested the fan (via X / @xvoltsy)

Snow White may not have found her happily ever after at the box office, but she did secure a permanent place in the halls of internet infamy with these absurd names!

After the movie crashed at the box office, social media exploded with aspiring critics donning their "press hats" and posting reviews and commentaries about the movie that had the internet in stitches:

"People all over the world are trashing Snow White. One parent said, 'It's so bad my young daughter asked halfway through the film when she would get to see Snow White." Some calling it Snow Flake," remarked one fan (via X / @GypsyPennyLew)

We think we have narrowed it down: Disney's attempt to do anything, everything, all at once left the audience with too much information to process. It left fans scratching their heads, but they did a splendid job of turning their disappointment into memes for our amusement! Fans used humor as a coping mechanism and took Disney to the cleaners:

"Cool, but Snow White still looks like Lord Farqaad. Kids are going to have nightmares. Lol," (via X / @shane_hendrikz)
"The poison apple is my favorite character in this movie," (via X / @crist0pher123)

Let's just hope that the poisoned apple was not made out of CGI!

When Disney announced the remake, expectations were sky-high for the movie. But a series of controversial decisions dashed Disney's hopes of making a grand opening statement.

Now that Snow White has performed way below expectations, it could lead to a financial disaster of epic proportions for Disney. Or the makers can still hold onto hope and take solace in the fact that The Lion King was in a similar predicament before staging a comeback.
