Brace yourself, folks, as Netflix is cooking up a storm for the ages- we are about to see Scooby-Doo and his band of teenage misfits on the big screen! But there's a twist: it's going to be a live-action series as Netflix seems fixated on actually bringing to life the much-loved characters without their cartoonish antics. An announcement for the main cast is also to be expected soon.
Fans react hilariously as a Scooby-Doo live-action series is greenlit by Netflix
While a live-action Scooby-Doo movie titled Velma was released in the early 2000s, this marks the first time we will see a live-action series on the big screen, with Netflix promising a fresh take.
The new series will serve as an origin story for our favorite gang of meddling kids, which might be exciting to see. And with that, the hunt for a Great Dane to fill the enormous shoes of Scooby-Doo is on!
As soon as the news dropped, social media went ablaze with theories about the casting and the possible directions it could take. The purists, however, took the news with a pinch of salt as they argued that Netflix would ruin the vibe by meddling with the story:
"They better not give Scooby a tragic backstory like he’s the chosen one or something", joked one fan (via X / @solmeena)
"Another piece of soulless Netflix slop. It’ll probably have a budget of $75 million per episode but looks like it was filmed using a potato", remarked another (via X / @TheTrellster)
It was a bizarre coincidence that the announcement for the series came around the time when the whole internet was obsessing over Marvel's big announcement. In a hilarious turn of events, fans mistook the casting announcements for Avengers: Doomsday with characters from Scooby-Doo:
"At first i thought they were casted for doomsday", joked one fan (via X / @oliverax)
"But will they also return in Avengers: Doomsday?", wondered another (via X / @ComicsBulletin_)
Can you imagine the absolute scenes if Scooby-Doo and company donned their capes and embarked on a mission to fight Dr. Doom in Latveria? Amid the anticipation building up for Avengers: Doomsday, throwing the Scooby-Doo gang into the mix would be the ultimate plot twist! Talking of the absurd, one fan (@wiseredpower700) came up with a rather intriguing demand:
"They should of done the scobby gang vs Jason Voorhees"
Imagine the scenes where Scooby and Shaggy try to distract the ultimate horror icon with their slapstick comedy while ducking for cover like they always do! We really hope Netflix gives this potential crossover a thought or two in the later seasons.
With the wave of live-action projects being lined up recently, another fan demanded a remake of another classic:
"Enough with scooby-doo I’m tired of scooby-doo give me the jetsons I’m begging" , implored the fan (via X / @ChadArn03462126)
On a lighter note, Fred is just a normal guy with a penchant for building elaborate traps. The guy's thirst for building traps has reached absurd heights and has even led to the 'Fred likes traps' meme. Another fan (@LiterallyWhoTho) predicted a theory that had the internet in splits:
"The Netflix adaptation will take the "Fred likes traps" joke literally. Calling it"
We really hope to see more of Fred building intricate traps to catch the bad guys in the upcoming series. Cut to the scene: Fred conducts his trap-building workshop in the series, complete with DIY instructions, while Daphne sobs in one corner of the room, thinking that Fred likes traps more than her.
As we await more details about casting and release dates, one thing is clear: Netflix is banking on our nostalgia to draw us back into the world of Mystery Inc. Only time will tell if the decision to make a live-action Scooby-Doo series will be a glorious train wreck or a surprisingly decent reboot. We can only hope for the best and pray that Netflix lets Shaggy say 'zoinks' at least once per episode!
