Marvel fans, rejoice! After years of speculation, rumors, and endless theories, the X-Men are officially coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Marvel Studios exec Brad Winderbaum recently confirmed that the first X-Men movie is now in active development, and let’s just say, the internet had thoughts about it.
The news spread like wildfire, sparking excitement, skepticism, and of course, memes. Because in 2024, if major news doesn’t result in a flood of memes, did it even really happen?
Marvel Confirms X-Men Movie in Development
During an interview with ScreenRant, Winderbaum revealed that developing the X-Men movie is now a major priority for Marvel.
“That is the focus of X-Men currently,” he said, giving fans the official confirmation they had been waiting for since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019.
While details about the film remain under wraps—no director, no casting, no release date—the mere acknowledgment that it’s in the works was enough to send social media into overdrive. And when social media goes into overdrive, memes are inevitable.
Naturally, the internet did what it does best: made jokes. Some fans pointed out the irony of Marvel focusing on X-Men now, suggesting that the studio might be using them as a last-ditch effort to save the MCU. One user quipped, “Looks like Marvel is relying on X-Men now to save MCU 👀” because let’s be real, Marvel’s recent track record hasn’t exactly been flawless victory territory.
Others were quick to point out that we technically already have X-Men movies, just not under Disney. One user joked,
“So just a Disney adaptation? Because we have 𝕏 men movies.”
A solid pun and a reminder that the Fox X-Men era had its own highs and lows.
Then there were those who simply couldn’t help but take a jab at Marvel’s recent performance. Someone asked,
“How did Captain America do? I haven’t seen any post about it doing numbers at all. Must’ve flopped 🤷♂️”
a cheeky way of questioning if Marvel’s latest projects are still pulling in the massive audience they once did.
Of course, not everyone was skeptical. Some fans were just happy to hear the X-Men are finally getting their MCU debut. “Things you love to hear & see,” one person commented, embracing the news with open arms.
But for others, cautious optimism was the name of the game. With the MCU’s writing and overall quality being a frequent topic of debate since Avengers: Endgame, one concerned fan summed up their feelings perfectly:
“I’m worried after the quality of writing and content since End Game”
And honestly, who can blame them?
There's no doubt that the X-Men entering the MCU is a huge deal. The characters have a rich history, enormous popularity, and the potential to breathe new life into the franchise.
But with recent troubles at Marvel, fans are taking this announcement with a touch of hope and doubt. Is it going to be a return to hero status for the mutants, or some overblown effort that will fall short of expectations?
For now, all we can do is wait and, in the meantime, enjoy the memes.
