The Oscars are supposed to be the pinnacle of film appreciation, a celebration of cinematic excellence judged by industry professionals who take their roles seriously. Or at least, that’s the idea. But every year, we get a glimpse behind the curtain, and it turns out some voters are just…vibing. Case in point: four anonymous Oscar voters have confessed that they didn’t even watch Dune: Part 2 and completely left it off their Best Picture ballot.

Their reasoning? Not deep. Not profound. Just a casual “The first Dune, I couldn’t get through; I’m not rushing for another three hours of Dune.” And just like that, one of the biggest blockbusters of the year was snubbed without even getting a chance. Naturally, the internet had some thoughts.

Dune: Part 2 Snubbed by Oscar Voters, and Fans Aren’t Having It

A post sharing this little revelation quickly gained traction online, but it wasn’t just the fact that Dune: Part 2 got skipped. It was how people reacted that made it explode.

One particular comment “Maybe they hated the race swapping lol” sparked a wave of hilarious replies.

Fans were quick to joke about everything from Zendaya’s presence to the idea that Oscar voters might have the attention span of an iPad-raised toddler.

And let’s be honest, in an era where people consume 30-second TikToks at lightning speed, a slow burn sci fi epic was never going to be everyone’s cup of tea.

But it wasn’t just about Dune itself. The post hit on a broader frustration people have with awards season: the idea that some Oscar voters don’t actually watch the movies they’re supposed to be judging. And the fact that they’re so casual about it? Even funnier.

Once the internet gets hold of something like this, the floodgates open. One of the top replies poked fun at the voters, suggesting they probably couldn’t sit through Dune because it didn’t have the pacing of a viral TikTok. Another joked that the Oscars are no longer judged by film critics but by

"professional TikTok experts"

who likely form their opinions based on 30-second clips rather than sitting through an actual movie.

And of course, Zendaya’s name came up. Someone chimed in with a dry

“Zendaya too lol”

a nod to how much of a marketing presence she has for the film, even though she had limited screen time in the first installment. Because if there’s one thing people on the internet love, it’s turning any discussion into a Zendaya meme.

Some fans were also genuinely frustrated, arguing that if you’re an Oscar voter, watching all the Best Picture nominees should be, you know…part of the job? Skipping a film and then proudly admitting it feels like showing up to a book club and announcing you didn’t read the book but still want to pick the winner. Others, however, found it hilarious, with many saying they weren’t even surprised.

At the end of the day, Dune: Part 2 will be just fine. It made bank, audiences loved it, and it doesn’t need voters’ approval to be considered great. But the whole situation once again proves that award season is, in many ways, just another popularity contest, one where some voters don’t even bother showing up to class before handing in their grades.

And if that isn’t the most Oscar thing ever, what is?
