Goku's voice artist, Masako Nozawa is basically the patron saint of anime protagonists and has amassed a large cult following with her craft. If there is one anime that has captured the eyeballs of millions of fans worldwide, defined childhoods, destroyed sleep schedules, and made grown adults scream in their living rooms like they just won the lottery, it's Dragon Ball.
This show is less of an animated series and more of a global phenomenon, with its legions of fans worldwide eagerly waiting for the next chaotic chapter of the franchise with bated breaths.
The show is ridiculous at its very core as we explore the world where the laws of physics are more like guidelines, hair gel is a superpower, and every problem can be solved by punching it really, really hard. And speaking of Dragon Ball, the anime has become synonymous with the exploits and antics of our favorite Saiyan warrior: Goku.
Now, Goku is as typical as any anime character that you can get. His antics never fail to amuse us. His hair looks like someone glued lightning bolts to his head, and he seems to have the metabolism of a black hole. Goku is the poster child of the franchise and has kept us entertained throughout decades with his absurd antics.
Masako Nozawa - Goku's Voice Artist
Masako Nozawa has spent over three decades screaming her lungs out, growling like a feral animal, and somehow making it all sound iconic. She’s been Goku through thick and thin, from his goofy, food-obsessed days to his godlike, universe-destroying battles.
It seems like she has vocal cords made out of pure energy and there's also a slight possibility that she might be part-Saiyan herself. We certainly can not rule that possibility out. She has played an immense role in Dragon Ball's ascent to superstardom and seems to genuinely love her job. In fact, she came up with a statement recently expressing her wishes to keep plying her trades till she's 182!
Fans were genuinely surprised to see her dedication to her craft but debated whether 182 is really the ideal age to retire. Netizens came up with hilarious responses as the statement came out, with one of them pointing out that she might need enhancements to carry out her job:
"She will…with AI", joked @CardxCaptain
Of course, any discussion on Dragon Ball is not completed without the mention of Senzu Beans, which are equivalent to real-life Red Bull. Running low on energy? Here, take a Senzu Bean. Have a fatal wound? Here, take a Senzu Bean and you'll be up, and running and hopping like an energizer bunny in no time! Netizens also had a similar suggestion in mind for Masako Nozawa:
"Somebody get her a f***ng senzu bean immediately" noted another fan (@EZMoneyLightWRK)
It's honestly hilarious seeing all of the nearly fatal injuries vanishing with the consumption of just one of these potent magic beans, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of fighting to death in the first place. Just bring more Senzu Beans to the fight, lads!
Others admired Misako's dedication to her profession and came up with hilarious responses to the situation by comparing her schedule to other popular superheroes:
"She’s tryna be on that Hugh Jackman wolverine schedule" one user (@AintFredoYou) quipped hilariously.
Another user came up with an epic monologue that perfectly depicts the hilarity of the situation:
"Deadpool : They're going yo make you do this until you're 90. Masako: Make it double", added another fan (@FlyingLandleech).
Of course, there are always some among us who are apprehensive of any news related to their favorite stars and automatically assume the worst. Especially since the wound is fresh with the passing of Akira Toriyama a couple of months ago. That might also be playing on their minds, but we're glad that netizens didn't let that fact deter them from coming up with tweets anyway:
One fan jokingly said that it's alright if she continues the voiceovers till she's 182, but 183 might be a bit of a stretch:
"But once her 183rd birthday hits she's right out. To continue after that would just be unreasonable," joked another.
Of course, no situation would be complete without a GIF neatly depicting the situation at hand:
Masako Nozawa is more than just a voice actor—she’s a force of nature. She’s the woman who turned screaming into an art form, who brought Goku to life for millions of fans around the world, and who continues to inspire new generations of voice actors. She’s proof that age is just a number and that passion and talent can transcend time. So here’s to Masako Nozawa: the voice of Goku, the queen of screaming and the undisputed GOAT of anime voice acting. May her energy never run out, and may her Kamehamehas always be on point.
