Marvel calls ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ a "new beginning" for the MCU — fans sarcastically say it definitely needs one

The Russo brothers have dropped a huge revelation: Avengers: Secret Wars is not an extension of all that we have seen so far in the MCU. Rather, the film is a starting point. Along with Avengers: Doomsday, it aims at marking a new beginning for the franchise.

In an interview with Omelete, as quoted by The Direct, Joe Russo stated:

"What's compelling about these two new 'Avengers' movies is they're a beginning. It's a new beginning. So we told an ending story, now we're going to tell a beginning story, and then who knows where we'll go from there."

He added:

"Maybe there'll be another five years, but I think we just needed that time and perspective to figure out where it needed to go next, and the only thing that brought us back was the right story."

Fans didn't waste any time dissecting this statement, typically driven by the traits of hype and harsh realism.

Most of them emphasized that if it's a reboot, then the entirety of material in between Endgame and here had to have been filler content. Others jokingly indicated that even Marvel was acknowledging that a reboot was on its way.

What is the deal with Avengers: Secret Wars?

Avengers: Secret Wars is set for release on May 7, 2027.

Robert Downey Jr. plays Doctor Doom in the film and, if rumors are to be believed, over 60 Marvel characters could pop up.

Runtime is rumored to be around 3 hours.

Fans have been attempting to cobble together what these films could look like based on leaked concept art, but the Russos have already written off those images.
