Warner Bros. has officially revealed the first poster for A Minecraft Movie, as well as its highly awaited trailer. Yes, they just clicked the craft button on what could very well be the most surprising movie announcement of the year. A live-action Minecraft movie is now officially happening, and it's arriving on April 4, 2025.
If you just visualized Steve in HD, actual human skin—first off, sorry about that in-your-head picture, and second, don't fret, because this cast is totally loaded.
Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge are all committed.
Some users are saying it looks like a lost relic from the early 2000s, while others think it’s serving Saturday morning cartoon energy. Of course, the internet saw an easy target and went full roast mode.
One user joked:
"This poster looks like a fan casting from 2012."
2012 YouTube thumbnails would like to have a word.
Another added:
"Yeah, this movie is gonna flop massively."
Let’s check back in April 2025 for the results.
One user roasted:
"0% rotten tomato."
Minecraft might be blocky, but this roast was sharp.
One more user said:
"You mean they didn't cancel this yet?"
Hollywood will adapt anything—your childhood is not safe.
A user jokingly said:
"Does Jack Black jump through the screen and screams "I AM STEVE!!!" at your face? If not then what's the point of calling it 4D?"
Jack Black might just improvise that anyway.
A user reacted with a fun GIF:
Minecraft movie 2025 poster: First look at the overworld
The poster involves the people (well, for the most part). At its center, Jason Momoa and Jack Black hog the limelight, previewing their live-action Minecraft characters.
Momoa as Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison seems the perfect gruff leader of this blocky outing. Set with a stern look and a survivalist's aura, he's more than prepared to lead his gang of misfits.
And then there's Jack Black as Steve, the crafting master and all-around Minecraft expert. With tools at his disposal and his trademark comedic zest, Black's interpretation of Steve will be both funny and faithful to the game's ethos.
Minecraft movie plot: What's the story about?
Here's the rundown: four pretty regular folks—Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks)—are just living their best lives when they get pulled into Minecraft's Overworld.
There, creativity is not optional.
They'll need to construct, excavate, and forge their way to salvation without the nuisance of Piglins, Zombies, and everything else looking to make their visit a permanent one.
Steve (Jack Black), master Minecrafter, is prepared to instruct them in the art of punching trees and not staring at Endermen in the face.
The movie provides multiple entertainment elements together with massive action scenes and comedy while delivering sweet family-oriented messages about teamwork, self-discovery, and the power of imagination.
The movie receives direction from Jared Hess (Nacho Libre and Napoleon Dynamite) thus presenting an amusing blend of comedy with emotionally moving scenes.
The movie is being produced by Roy Lee and his team including Mary Parent together with Jon Berg and Cale Boyter, while Todd Hallowell and Kayleen Walters hold executive producer roles.
Fan reactions to the Minecraft movie trailer
With the poster and trailer out in the wild, fans are already lighting up comment sections.
Others are beyond hyped, comparing the film to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and looking for an equally enjoyable, game-based ride.
Others are rolling their skeptical eyebrows at taking a sandbox game with no concrete story and turning it into a feature-length movie.
Adapting Minecraft as a formalized story is a crazy challenge. The game succeeds because of the player's own creativity, not set plot structures.
But judging from what we've been seeing, though, it appears Hess and the gang are embracing the chaos, playfulness, and limitless possibility that makes Minecraft so engaging.
See you in the Overworld on April 4, 2025—just remember to pack a pickaxe.
