The live-action Minecraft movie is happening. Yes, in case you were still in denial, it’s real, and it’s heading to theaters on April 4. The film, which stars Jack Black as Steve (yes, you read that correctly), recently dropped a new clip, and let’s just say the internet had... feelings.

If the goal was to get fans talking, mission accomplished. But based on the responses, the conversation is less “Wow, can’t wait!” and more “Why does this exist?” The clip, intended to build hype, instead built a collection of confused, concerned, and downright comical reactions from the Minecraft community.

The live-action Minecraft movie is here, whether we like it or not

The latest footage from the film landed on social media, and people wasted no time in sharing their (very honest) thoughts. The clip, meant to showcase the world of Minecraft in live-action, somehow managed to do the exact opposite. Instead of making fans excited, it left them wondering if they were watching a parody trailer that got out of hand.

Jack Black as Steve is already a bold choice, but seeing the blocky world of Minecraft transformed into a live-action setting just doesn’t seem to be hitting the way the filmmakers probably hoped. Rather than nostalgic excitement, the clip sparked an online roast session that could burn through a diamond pickaxe.

As expected, the community did not hold back. One user, clearly baffled, questioned the entire marketing strategy with: “Do they think these clips help?” which, honestly, might be the most real review so far.

Another viewer chimed in with a level of concern usually reserved for questionable restaurant health ratings:

“I'm not trying to be a negative nelly, but I don't think this is going to do well.”

No sugarcoating here just raw, unfiltered skepticism.

Jack Black playing Steve was always going to be a conversation starter, but not necessarily in the way the studio hoped. One fan summed up their thoughts with:

“Jack Black as Steve of all people 😭.”

A casting choice that feels like it came from a game of Mad Libs rather than a boardroom discussion.

And then there are the parents, arguably the film’s biggest target audience. One unimpressed parent shared, “My kids like Minecraft, yet they are a hard pass on this movie.” If the game-loving children aren’t even on board, that’s probably not a great sign.

Finally, someone took a more time-travel-themed approach, joking:

“Are you saying this from the future?”

Given the reactions, you’d almost believe this movie had already premiered and flopped spectacularly.

Despite the roasting session, the movie is still set for release on April 4. Will it win over audiences? Or will it join the long list of video game adaptations that made everyone question their life choices?

One thing is certain: the internet has spoken, and right now, the vibes are about as smooth as a cobblestone block. But hey, maybe we’ll all be proven wrong, and Minecraft will be the next Barbie.

…Yeah, no, probably not.
