Lipton has now stated that the announcement regarding the Peach Iced Tea discontinuation was nothing more than an April Fool's joke. So yes, fans went through all five stages of grief—only to learn that the brand was just playing games with them.

The company took to its official Instagram handle (again) to announce:

"Peach is here to stay."
"Oops, is it still March? Got my dates mixed up... thought it was April Fools already! I'd never take away your favourite flavour, pookies."
"Your love for Peach has not gone unnoticed. But I've got your back, I will be sending a surprise to the biggest fans with the best reactions."

But if you were thinking that the fans were relieved and grateful for the brand, you're mistaken. Because internet triggered just another level of roast mode, where they teased the brand for messing with their emotions.

Social media users event on making humorous jokes about brands and their new advertising tactics.

Social media reacts to Lipton NOT discontinuing Peach Ice Tea

Users were quick to remind—or rather point out—Lipton that it was only March 19, a little too soon for an April Fool's joke. Some users jokingly envisioned the behind-the-scenes pandemonium—imagining the moment when someone presented this joke in a meeting, and an executive actually greenlit it.

A user @BardisMedia mentioned a very important point:

"April fools? We’re in march.. and it’s the 19th…"

A user @Lil_Luna_IRL reminded:

"April fools joke in march huh"

Yet another user @lynx proposed a scenario:

"Hear me out on this one boss. April fools, but in March"

Users jokingly complained that they had experienced all five stages of grief to only realize that it was a joke. And not even any ordinary joke, but an April Fool's joke in March.

One probably heartbroken user @arianatorswildt stated:

"nobody laughed..."

Another user @hermithick said:

"We went through all five stages of grief for NOTHING."

Customers couldn't help but think that they were seeing a trend—companies creating crazy publicity stunts similar to Duolingo's "death" of its mascot.

Taking a jab at the brand, one user @YallQunt stated:

"Lipton wanna be a stunt queen so bad…"

Another user @TheAlexisKraft highlighted:

"they went to the duolingo school of marketing."

Certain customers were swift to accuse Lipton of planning to kill off Peach Iced Tea originally but changed their minds after experiencing the huge public outcry.

A user @AStateofPete mentioned:

"They totally backtracked their statement because of the backlash lol."

Another user @ellaaimagine speculated:

"Not them changing their mind?"

A customer sarcastically noted that others went into stores and stockpiled Peach Iced Tea, believing that it was soon to be out of production.

A user @afterglowlovato stated:

"i’m laughing people went out to tesco last night and bought crates of lipton for it to be an april fools joke 😭"

Guess we will just wait for another brand to pull out another trick from the same playbook.
