Marvel fans rejoiced when Robert Downey Jr.'s return in Avengers: Doomsday was announced—this time as the villain Doctor Doom himself. Ever since the big reveal at Comic-Con, fans have been eager for more details, and it looks like one of the Russo brothers just answered their prayers.

In a recent interview with The Times, Anthony Russo, one of the Russo brothers directing the next two Avengers movies, praised Robert Downey Jr., saying, “There’s nobody else in the world who could play this character the way he’s about to.” The reveal has left fans hyped, eager to see what the now Oscar-winning actor will bring to the role.

Hilarious Fan Reactions

While fans were excited by Russo's tease, many were also hilariously debating whether no other actor in the world could truly play Doctor Doom.

"Like Ironman?" a fan asked.

If no one else in the world could have played Doctor Doom like Anthony Russo just said, does that mean the same applies to Iron Man? If so, we might never see anyone else take up the role, because let’s face it, no one can match the swag of RDJ!

"The guy who played Negan definitely could," suggested another.

Looks like this fan has another pick for Doctor Doom—Jeffrey Dean Morgan! Given his terrifying run as Negan in The Walking Dead and his recent portrayal as Conquest in Invincible, maybe Doctor Doom would've been a walk in the park for him.

Woah, wait a minute—how can anyone ignore Cillian Murphy as an option? As this fan points out, he played Oppenheimer, the man behind the atomic bomb! So of course, Doctor Boom could play Doctor Doom!

"Theres nobody left," a fan wrote.

It seems we have an RDJ fan in our midst, convinced that no one else could play Doctor Doom. In fact, they believe nobody is even left to try. Now that's some serious fan love!

"Any bets that this is going to bez as a multiversal "What If" take where Stark becomes Doom had he not become a good guy?" commented another.

Uh-oh, let’s hope this user hasn’t cracked the plot of Avengers: Doomsday—a universe where Tony Stark became a villain instead of a hero, leading to the birth of Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man. If that’s true, the Russo brothers might need a last-minute rewrite!

Avengers: Doomsday seems to be all fans can talk about lately, with even the smallest reveal sending ripples through the fandom. At this rate, we might just see it dethrone Avengers: Endgame at the box office!
