For years, ‘Smallville’ fans have tossed around the idea of a potential sequel. What happened to Clark Kent after he finally embraced his destiny? Did Lex Luthor ever regain his memories? And most importantly, does Tom Welling still look ridiculously good in a red jacket?

Well, it turns out we’ll never get answers to those questions at least not in a new series. The long-rumored ‘Smallville’ sequel has officially been taken off the table, and while you’d expect fans to be devastated, the internet had a very different reaction. Instead of mourning, most people collectively shrugged and moved on with their day.

Smallville’ sequel series is not happening

In a recent interview, Tom Welling confirmed that the chances of a sequel are slim. According to him, DC’s never-ending cycle of Superman reboots is to blame.

"I think the fact that they are in the process of rebooting Superman again, kind of unfortunately, I think, keeps our thing off the table for a bit," he explained.

Translation: Warner Bros. is too busy hitting the reset button again, so there’s no room for a ‘Smallville’ revival.

While this might disappoint some die-hard fans, let’s be honest most of us had no idea a sequel was even being considered. Judging by the internet’s reaction, very few people were actually asking for one.

The moment this news hit social media, fans responded in the only way they knew how with sarcasm and a complete lack of concern. One fan said:

"Leave it alone"

One user summed up the situation perfectly:

"Water is wet. No one was ever asking for a ‘Smallville’ sequel series."

It’s a fair point. While the series had its time in the superhero spotlight, the idea of reviving it in today’s already oversaturated DC landscape didn’t seem all that necessary.

Another user kept things short and sweet:

"Good, ‘cause we don’t need it."

Brutal? Yes. Wrong? Not really.

Then, of course, there was the ever-growing fatigue over DC’s inability to stick to one timeline. One user chimed in:

"Everyone is tired of the constant DC reboots."

At this point, DC Studios is like that friend who keeps announcing they're going to the gym, only to restart their fitness journey every three months.

That being said, not everyone was happy to hear this news. A few fans still held onto the hope that Welling’s Clark Kent could make a return. One disappointed user simply wrote:

"Bummer!"

Short. Simple. A tragic loss for the ‘Smallville’ faithful.

As much as ‘Smallville’ was an iconic part of early 2000s television, maybe it’s best left as a nostalgic memory. After all, trying to force a sequel into today’s superhero-obsessed era could risk tarnishing its legacy (cough ‘Heroes Reborn’ cough).

With DC working on yet another Superman reboot, the odds of seeing Clark Kent back in a sequel are next to nothing. Honestly? That might not be such a bad thing.

Sometimes, it’s best to let nostalgia live on in peace without the risk of another questionable CGI suit.
