Kanye West and Playboi Carti were working on an album—until they weren’t. Ye himself took to X (formerly Twitter) to break the news. A project so secret, that no one even knew it was happening. Until, of course, it wasn’t.

“WE WERE WORKING ON PROJECT CALLED CARTI YE IM SORRY THAT THIS WONT HAPPEN NOW”

Ye didn’t stop at just announcing the album’s demise. He declared himself Carti’s “actual twin.”

Meanwhile, social media exploded. Some fans dropped tearful memes over the lost potential, others celebrated, and then there were the skeptics who swore this collab never even existed.

The general consensus is either Kanye was on one of his rants, or this was a case of musical FOMO.

Social media reacts to ‘CARTI YE’ getting scrapped

While we’ll never know what CARTI YE could have been if it actually materialized. Some users think Carti might have just sidestepped a disaster.

A user (@sylabdul) stated:

"Carti dodged a bullet there"

Out of nowhere, Drake started catching strays too—for allegedly acting just like Kanye in situations like this.

One user (@DogNinja99) pointed out:

"No wonder he idolizes Drake so much. They both are the biggest cry babies in music 😂😂😂😂"

A user (@HealJaZenn) joked:

"Ye got the craziest scrapped album collection."

A user (@ShawtyHuge) mentioned:

"Dammmn ye be hating that hard smh ridiculous."

Nobody really gets why Kanye called himself “Carti’s actual twin,” and the internet is perplexed.

A user (@tjmooreeee) commented:

""From Carti's actual twin" - a 50 year old man once said."

A user (@cryptofunchill) poked fun at Ye, stating:

"“Carti’s actual twin"! Dang so sad to see Ye going out this sad! A whole legend just chipping away his legacy tweet by tweet! The jealousy towards Kendrick is crazy !! SMH!!"

Basically, people are saying Kanye didn’t even need to act like this—because, in their eyes, Carti’s album was "trash" anyway.

Serving equal roasts, one user (@itsbushwacker) said:

"Ye has been on some stupid sht recently and Carti’s recent album was trash so I don’t really care tbh."

This user decided to celebrate with a party GIF:

Another user, adding fuel to the fire, stated:

"No Carnival 2. We won."

"No Carnival 2" means there won't be a sequel, so if you were expecting a part two, close it out.

Kanye West on Playboi Carti’s album

Ye had thoughts about Carti’s latest project, I Am Music, which dropped on March 14, 2025. Specifically, he had a very pointed take on Kendrick Lamar’s features:

“I DONT LIKE KENDRICK LAMAR'S MUSIC. HE RAPS VERY GOOD BUT I DIDNT NEED TO HEAR HIM ON CARTI ALBUM”

So basically: great rapper, wrong album.

That is an interesting stance, considering Kanye West himself produced Backdoor, one of the tracks featuring Kendrick.

It wasn't a completely negative review, however. Ye approved of songs such as Crank and I Seeeeee You Baby Boi.

At this point, the best way to get the full story is to stay tuned to Ye’s rants.

Whether he drops more posts, goes on an Instagram Live meltdown, or randomly leaks tracks, Kanye West isn’t one to stay quiet for long.
