Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega just drove over a unicorn. No, seriously. And that's just the start of A24's new crazy ride, Death of a Unicorn. The new trailer for the movie just dropped, and it is full of hooves, horns, and some serious revenge vibes.

Naturally, the internet was going to have a field day with this one. A section of social media users compared it to Jurassic Park while others weren’t fully sold on the visuals and seemingly expected more.

But at the end of the day, social media’s default setting is to roast, whether you like it or not.

One user called it:

"Jurassic Park with Unicorns 🤣"

Meanwhile, Spielberg is either deeply intrigued or deeply concerned.

Another user mentioned:

"Am I the only one who thinks it looks bad? 😭"

A24, explain yourself—this user needs answers.

A user declared:

"This is going to be bad bad."

Not just bad, but bad bad—that’s a whole different level of concern.

A user reacted with a hilarious GIF:

One user thinks:

"They running out of movie ideas 💀"

Who is to say Hollywood’s brainstorming process does not involve throwing darts at random words?

A user went on to say:

"The ideas for movies are getting crazier and crazier each year 😭"

So what if Bambi… but unhinged?

What is Death of a Unicorn about? Plot summary explained

Elliot, (played by Paul Rudd), and his high school-aged daughter, Ridley (Jenna Ortega), are just living their lives when they bump into a unicorn with their vehicle.

But things get worse. Because rather than deal with this awful, once-in-a-million car accident like reasonable human beings, Elliot's wealthy employer, Dell Leopold (Richard E. Grant), is a greedy one.

It turns out that unicorns are blessed with miracle healing powers. Of course, the super-wealthy decide to take the creature's body and commodify it into their next money-maker.

But Karma has them in its sights. And by Karma, we mean a cranky, upset, much larger unicorn that doesn't take too kindly to being turned into Big Pharma's new wellness fad.

What we have here is a darkly comedic horror film about greed, retribution, and why perhaps you should not play with magical beasts.

Who is in the cast of Death of a Unicorn?

Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Richard E. Grant, and Anthony Carrigan.

A24 has been on a roll, churning out instant classics such as Hereditary, Lady Bird, and Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Now they're at it again, presenting a movie that is gory and strangely relevant all at the same time.

Director Alex Scharfman, who also wrote the screenplay, is bringing that same blend of creepy horror and laugh-out-loud satire.

What can we look forward to from Death of a Unicorn?

The trailer is a masterclass in tone-shifting. One moment, we’re in an eerie woodland scene, the next, there’s chaotic billionaire scheming, and then giant unicorn terror.

There’s something deeply satisfying about watching the ultra-wealthy learn the hard way that Mother Nature does not do refunds.

When is Death of a Unicorn coming out? Release date details

Death of a Unicorn debuts at SXSW on March 8, 2025, before opening nationwide on March 28.

Assuming the trailer is any indicator, we're in for a film that's part comedy, part horror show, and all cautionary story regarding why you ever, in a million years, mess around with unicorns.
