John Cena, the iconic WWE superstar and actor, is now the new face of McDonald's McValue menu. The man who can lift you, your car, and your existential crisis is now lifting our spirits with some sweet fast-food deals.

McDonald’s launched this campaign with Cena to promote the new offerings, like the “Buy One, Add One for $1” deal and the classic $5 Meal Deal.

Cena called the new deals a “game-changer” for McDonald’s fans. But the internet is less about the deals and more about the jokes. Because if there’s one thing we can count on, it’s the internet turning anything Cena does into a “you can’t see me” meme-fest.

Sharing the video, the fast-food giant captioned it as: "i see you @johncena and McValue."

One user quipped, “It’s the first time I’m seeing a hash brown voicing a commercial.”

Another chimed in, “Why is the hash brown flying and speaking?”

And of course, the classic lament: “Where are the snack wraps? I’m tired of this trickery.”

John Cena’s McDonald’s ad

In the ad, created by the renowned agency Wieden+Kennedy New York, Cena sports a mustard-yellow sweater that’s giving major Mr. Rogers vibes.

He enthusiastically breaks down the McValue menu, and it’s nothing short of hilarious.

Cena starts by saying:

“With McValue, you can always find deals on McDonald's menu, even the breakfast menu. So how about we all take a moment to find deals on life's menu?”

He then transitions into a reflective yet humorous tone while answering “Life's most valuable lesson.”

He says: “That if one believes enough, one can become invisible.”

Cena’s humor peaks as he continues:

“Honestly, I wish it would stop. It's... It's gone too far. People can't see me, for real.”

He demonstrates his invisibility, joking:

“You’d be like, oh, it's Hash Brown just talking to me, right? Yeah, I get, it's funny. I get it. But, um... I've been invisible for, uh, 20 years now.”

Reflecting on his journey, Cena adds:

“Man, you know, it started so fun. I was like, oh, you can't see me! And then... Then I was like, yeah, he can't see me. And then people were like, where is he? And I'm just taking a picture with nobody over my shoulder. And then, like, here we are. I'm invisible.”

McDonald’s strategy to reclaim dominance

McDonald’s is rolling out this campaign at a critical time. After a tough year with inflation and price sensitivity hitting sales, McDonald’s is pulling out all the stops to bounce back.

The U.S. market faced its first decline in comparable sales since the pandemic, so it’s all hands on deck to reignite the love for the golden arches.

The McValue platform, first introduced in November, is now the centerpiece of McDonald’s strategy. And they’re not stopping at Cena.

McDonald’s will team up with over a dozen brands, including YouTube, Tinder, Roku, American Airlines, and Lyft, offering more than $3 million in promotional deals throughout January.

From free medium fries with a $1 purchase every Friday to a free McCrispy chicken sandwich for new users, McDonald’s is serious about luring us back.

Cena’s nostalgic farewell to WWE and McDonald’s

What makes this campaign even more poignant is its timing with Cena’s retirement from WWE. Cena’s nostalgic connection to McDonald’s is crystal clear. He’s shared how McDonald’s was a staple during his wrestling tours with an earlier interview with People Magazine, indulging in Big Macs and Chicken McNuggets after events.
