This Thanksgiving, JD Vance didn’t just show up with mash and gravy; he came loaded with drama. The Vice President-elect tweeted a meme that can best be described as … peculiar and brilliant. Portraying himself as “Trump’s wife,” Vance re-created Norman Rockwell’s Freedom From Want and stirred up a storm on social media. Twitterati did not miss the chance to poke fun at the ridiculousness of his self-constructed persona. An X (formerly Twitter) user's query summed up the whole thing:

"Why did he depict himself as a trad wife."
A user's humorous statement read: "Look, nothing any of us can say is gonna beat the fact that he posted this himself."
A user asked: "You see yourself as trump's wife?"
A presumably perplexed user reassured: "This is from official @JDVance - we repeat, this is not a meme."
Another user labelled it as a "Humiliation ritual."

Meanwhile, a user proposed a hilarious theory:

A user went on jokingly ask: "What is it about trump that causes the men in his life to behave this way lmao."
A comment read: "JD Vance to Elon: he knows where HOME is."

JD Vance as Trump’s wife?

Who would have thought Norman Rockwell’s iconic Thanksgiving painting would be the backdrop for political shenanigans? Instead of a turkey, the family in Vance’s remix discerns the shape of a bright red electoral map.

In what is arbitrarily pitched to be the stereotypical matriarch role, Vance feeds everyone a symbolic meal. And then there is Donald Trump standing behind him, grinning. The photo makes you question if we have been transported to a bizarre world where The Real Housewives of MAGA-Land is a reality.

What was Vance thinking?

It is time to discuss the elephant – or the turkey – in the room. While portraying himself as an apron-carrying waiter, Vance did not merely turn the head; he drenched gender roles in gravy and upended them.

Some saw this as a lack of self-irony, assuming he portrayed himself as subservient to Trump. Others perceived it as a not very thinly veiled reference to the relationship between the two, where Vance is subordinate.

Liberals roast, Conservatives toast

The responses following the meme were nearly as divided as the electoral map depicted within it.

Liberals didn’t waste any time ripping apart Vance like a group of relatives during a pie scarcity. Mehdi Hasan, a highly vocal journalist and critic, could not help but raise the question of why it is acceptable to draw a victory map while leaving out the margins by which the GOP earned its victories.

Film producer Franklin Leonard expressed secondhand embarrassment with the image as unavoidable as your uncle singing Sweet Caroline at a family event.

On the other hand, conservative fans drank it up. Elon Musk, the internet’s unofficial troll-in-chief, responded with a laughing emoji.
