When Kanye West (@kanyewest) took to social media to announce,

“WHY IM RICHER THAN 99% OF PEOPLE THAT CAN READ,” and ofcourse, the internet immediately responded with its signature humor, leaving Kanye’s bold statement in the dust.

One standout reply by @getderb simply asked,

“Is Floyd the 1%?” referencing Floyd Mayweather’s famous reading struggles.

With this wild proclamation, Kanye managed to stir the online hive once again, putting a spotlight not on his vast wealth but on the relentless commentary from fans. While Kanye is known for his over-the-top confidence, the fanbase wasted no time poking fun at the absurdity of his latest claim.

Fans react with humor and sarcasm as Kanye declares himself richer than 99% of people that can read

Kanye's boast about his wealth inspired a range of reactions, many questioning the point of the post altogether. A wave of tweets reflected how users truly felt about Kanye’s attempt to highlight his riches, with some fans left bewildered by the sheer audacity of the claim.

@The_Kanversation tweeted,

“WAIT, BULLY JUST DROPPED. PLEASE GIVE US HALF AN HOUR TO DIGEST,”

The combination of disbelief and mockery was evident throughout, with others diving straight into sarcasm. Another tweet by @brady_deel cut to the core of Kanye’s success with a cheeky reminder:

“Cuz Jay Z put you on.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be the internet without someone questioning the need for such a proclamation.

“A real rich man don’t gotta tell you how rich he is. You’ll see it,” @Fityeth pointed out, subtly jabbing at Kanye’s need to constantly inform everyone of his wealth.

@elitetmb threw in some tongue-in-cheek logic:

“Cause 1% is sleeping rn,” implying that the missing 1% is simply out of action during Kanye's late-night Twitter spree.

But not all reactions were dismissive. One tweet humorously inquired what, exactly, to do with Kanye’s revelation:

“Soo, what do we do with this information?”

And, of course, in true Twitter fashion, another user saw an opportunity to cash in on Kanye’s riches, with @unseenopium asking,

“May you please buy my door dash pls ye.”

As usual, the internet had a field day with Kanye’s comments, showing that no matter how many millions (or billions) he claims, his declarations are no match for a fanbase ready to roast him at a moment’s notice.

Background on Kanye West’s wealth and recent controversies

Kanye West, no stranger to the billionaire club, has been under the spotlight for his financial status before. Despite previously being dropped by major brands and losing a significant chunk of his fortune, West recently claimed to be a billionaire again, although some have questioned the legitimacy of this statement. According to available reports, his net worth is estimated to be around $400 million—a far cry from his earlier self-declared billionaire status.

On top of his financial announcements, West has sparked controversy with his antisemitic remarks and outlandish behavior on social media. Over the past year, he’s faced public backlash for comments praising Hitler, resulting in social media bans and severed business relationships. This string of controversial posts has put him at odds with not just fans, but also the companies he once collaborated with. West’s erratic behavior and bold claims have made it increasingly difficult to separate his wealth from his controversy—a fact fans are quick to point out with every online outburst.
