In a move that had the Twitch community doing double-takes and spit-takes, the automated account StreamerBans pulled off an April Fools' prank for the ages. On April 1, the bot announced that Twitch CEO Dan Clancy had been banned from his own platform.

Given StreamerBans' reputation for delivering real-time updates on streamer bans, many were momentarily hoodwinked by this jest. The post even included a link that, instead of leading to more information, redirected users to a humorous Twitch-based remix of "Stolen Dance" by Milky Chance.

The Twitch community's response was swift and filled with humor. One user, @death_bee_, encapsulated the collective sentiment with a succinct:

"Baited u got me 🤣👍"

Another user, @scubaryan_, shared a screenshot of the original (now deleted) StreamerBans tweet, adding:

"Twitch CEO, Dan Clancy, has been banned from his own platform… 😭"

Twitch CEO ‘banned’ in legendary April Fools’ prank, and the internet loses it

The internet, never one to miss a beat, erupted with a chorus of opinions as the "ban" sent shockwaves through the Twitch community. From celebratory laughter to utter disbelief, reactions poured in as users processed the ultimate April Fools' joke.

@StickzNPuck, clearly appreciating the prank, kept it simple:

"W APRIL FOOLS."

@YETABOi, still recovering from the shock, admitted:

"This April fools joke had me cryin'."

Some users couldn’t resist drawing parallels to Twitch’s recent unbanning of Adin Ross, a controversial figure on the platform:

"Traded Adin Ross for the CEO," X user @AdinRossEmpire said.

@Agtesnx took it a step further, suggesting an absurd cause-and-effect scenario:

"No way Adins unban had so much of an impact that even the CEO couldn’t handle his aura so he had to ban himself."

The joke also sparked comparisons to Ross’s past treatment on the platform:

"He gonna get the Adin treatment 🤣," @Firesidesportz commented.

And, of course, some fans reveled in the irony of the situation:

"Damn, Twitch CEO got caught lackin' on his own site 💀," @GratefulBruh commented.

Who's Dan Clancy, and what's the "Adin Treatment"?

For those out of the loop, Dan Clancy isn't just any executive; before helming Twitch, he was a NASA engineer with a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence. Talk about shooting for the stars and landing among streamers! Since taking over as Twitch CEO in 2023, Clancy has had a rocky relationship with the platform’s creators due to controversial revenue-sharing changes and an ongoing battle with competing platforms.

The "Adin treatment" refers to streamer Adin Ross, who faced multiple bans from Twitch over the years. His most notable ban occurred in February 2023 due to unmoderated content during his streams. Interestingly, Ross was unbanned on March 29, 2025, after a two-year hiatus, leading some to jest that Clancy's "ban" was a trade-off.

In the ever-evolving world of streaming, where drama and humor often go hand in hand, StreamerBans' prank served as a lighthearted reminder of the community's camaraderie. While the joke was on them this time, fans took it in stride, showcasing the platform's unique blend of spontaneity and connection.
