After all the years of teases, snippets, and false alarms, Playboi Carti finally delivered what fans were waiting for—a legitimate release date. In a simple tweet—"FRIDAY" —Carti announced that I AM MUSIC would officially be dropping on March 14, 2025.

Fans quickly inundated the internet with memes. At this moment, Carti releasing an album feels like once-in-a-lifetime stuff. All the years of trolling, the unconfirmed drop dates, and the mysterious leaks have led to this moment.

Ranging from fans faking the faint to fans crawling out of the trenches after the great Carti drought, memes were priceless. Some remain doubtful (because, well…Carti), but as of now, it's happening at last.

The moment this name dropped, the streets turned into Coachella. X user @scubaryan_ posted:

"we are so back"

Carti fans are built differently—the album ain’t even out, and they’re already in full emotional collapse mode.

A user @cartisburner__ asked:

"is this reality"

This user (@HYPEX) just dropped a GIF shaking uncontrollably from pure excitement.

A random tuxedo GIF was dropped—because apparently, this album announcement is a black-tie event.

@LacyHimself says:

"we there"

Another user (@lottareds) pulled out Thanos to say what we’re all thinking:

"THE WORLD IS HEALING"

Of course, not everyone was as this because this skeptical user (@ayeejuju) said:

"Not believing this until the album is on my Spotify wrapped."

A user (D3generocity) went on to drop LeBron's ‘It’s about damn time’ video.

What better way to celebrate than with a hypothetical coach sprinting across the field like he just won the championship of life?

@tolp444 mentioned:

"CARTI FINALLY TWEETED"

With a virtually crying GIF, a user (@lottareds) stated:

"I STILL CANT BELIEVE THIS IS REAL IVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS NOTIFICATION 😭"

Even Kevin Hart had to step in with a little two-step shared by @brndxix

Confirmation of I AM MUSIC

Earlier in March 2025, Carti confirmed that I AM MUSIC was finally done. This came after a miscommunication of a phone call with producer Wheezy over sampling JAY-Z's "Girls, Girls, Girls," which led some to believe the album was still being worked on.

Playboi Carti clarified that his album was finished, replying, "MY ALBUM DONE.".

The release of the completion of the album was then followed by shipping I AM MUSIC merchandise packages, also establishing the release date.

The fans had been waiting for these packages, which were tied to the release of the album and had been postponed several times.

I AM MUSIC is said to have production from renowned artists such as Ye, Travis Scott, Mike Dean, and Metro Boomin.

Contrary to the majority of contemporary albums, I AM MUSIC does not include any guest verses, with everything focused on Carti's style and sound alone. This aligns with Carti's shifting aesthetic, which he and his producers have labeled as "burnt music".

Background and promotion

Playboi Carti's I AM MUSIC has been the most anticipated album of 2025, following his chart-topper Whole Lotta Red in 2020.

The hype began on December 7, 2023, with a cryptic Instagram post reading, "I am music," and Pharrell Williams' response, which was, "Prepare".

This instantly created rumors of a coming release, with DJ Akademiks hyping it as "the greatest thing you ever heard". Throughout 2024, Carti continued to tease fans with teaser shots of new material through live performances and exclusive social media drops.

He premiered a couple of songs at Rolling Loud Miami in December 2024, continuing to generate hype. Billboards promoting the album in major cities in February 2025 displayed messages like "MUSIC IS COMING" and "BABYBOI," which some speculated could be on the tracklist.
