This Thanksgiving, President Joe Biden gave his son, Hunter Biden, a presidential pardon. On December 1, Biden entered the ring as the Dad-in-Chief. Hunter was arrested for federal gun violations and tax evasion, but due to this pardon, all his legal dates are open for the holidays. The opposition has accused Biden of wielding political influence, but he stands to defend himself, saying he is just cutting through the political noise. Social media, of course, went haywire. While many users came up with a flurry of reactions, this is how one X (formerly Twitter) user imagines Hunter:

A user ironically remarked: "What matters most is that Hunter had fun."
Another user said: "Biden’s Presidency started with him denying the existence of Hunter’s laptop and is ending with Biden pardoning Hunter for all the things found on his laptop."
A user added: "Barron Trump has four years to do the funniest things imaginable."

Meanwhile, a user thinks this is how Grok, owned by Elon Musk, would react to the news.

Taking a dig at Trump's charges, a user says: "If a convicted felon can become president then people should have no problem with this presidential pardon."

As per this user, this is what inspired Joe Biden:

The ouch moment for Joe Biden:

Somewhere in America, Joe Biden...

Well, George Orwell comes in handy.

And the cherry on the top, a user suggests, "He should pardon some random guy with zero context as a fun little mystery."

What did Hunter Biden even do?

Hunter Biden has been charged with two criminal cases: possession of a firearm and failure to pay tax. First, in June 2024, Hunter was convicted of three felonies for violation of the firearms purchase in 2018. He reportedly completed a questionnaire saying that he did not take illegal drugs, which was not true and acquired a shiny new Colt Cobra .38 revolver.

After that, in September 2024, Hunter again got a taste of the legal system by pleading guilty to nine tax evasion charges. While lavishing himself on foreign business undertakings, he purportedly evaded the payment of at least $1.4 million in taxes.

Flash forward to December 1, 2024, and in a narrative coup nobody could have predicted except that it was so woefully predictable, President Biden comes in to clear his son’s name. He argues that Hunter’s prosecution was politically motivated and that federal law enforcement has been unfair to him.

Official reactions

His friends and supporters call this retribution and assert that malicious political opponents targeted Hunter. Reacting to this, Biden said over celebratory Thanksgiving turkey, it took time to decide, but then the dad's instincts grabbed it.

Donald Trump is unhappy. He has said that if he had pardoned his kids, the media would explode.

The White House, however, continues to stand firm. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre insists it was a moral decision.
