Hollywood loves a good love triangle, and MATERIALISTS is here to deliver one with a side of luxury, drama, and very expensive problems. The first trailer for the film, starring Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson, and Pedro Pascal, has just dropped, and let’s just say fans have thoughts.

Directed by Celine Song, MATERIALISTS follows Dakota Johnson as a woman caught between two men: Chris Evans, the charming yet possibly problematic choice, and Pedro Pascal, who is, well, Pedro Pascal. MATERIALISTS promises romance, betrayal, and an outrageous amount of wealth. Basically, it’s giving Gossip Girl meets Succession, but with a Chris Evans-sized dilemma.

The First Trailer for ‘MATERIALISTS’ Has the Internet Talking

As soon as the trailer hit the internet, it sparked the kind of chaos only a star-studded movie can. Fans were quick to dissect every second, from Dakota Johnson’s signature deadpan elegance to Pedro Pascal effortlessly stealing every scene he walks into. But the real problem? Nobody can unsee Chris Evans as Captain America.

One user summed it up perfectly:

"I can't forget Chris Evans as Captain America."

Honestly, fair. It’s hard to watch him in a suit and not expect him to throw a shield at someone mid-scene. Marvel did too good of a job cementing him as America’s favorite superhero, and now, even when he’s out here playing emotionally unavailable rich men, some fans refuse to move on.

But while some were stuck in the MCU, one fan had a more pressing concern: hasn’t this movie been made before?

"A woman trying to decide between two men... like past lives??? How original."

A brutal but valid observation. Hollywood does love to serve up the same dish with different seasoning, and this one definitely has the Past Lives and La La Land energy. The only difference? This love triangle comes with yachts, designer gowns, and probably a dramatic glass of red wine thrown at someone’s face.

Then there’s the matter of timing. A fan lamented,

"I like the trailer, but June is very far."

Relatable. The wait for MATERIALISTS feels like the cinematic equivalent of ordering food when you’re starving and realizing it’s going to take an hour. The hype is real, but patience? Not so much.

On the flip side, some fans are already sold on the aesthetic and the absolute level of drama the movie promises. One user declared,

"Money, drama, and Pedro Pascal? Sold."

Honestly, same. If Pedro Pascal so much as breathes in a trailer, half the internet is buying tickets.

Of course, no major Hollywood film is complete without at least one person predicting its downfall. In this case, someone pointed out the obvious risk:

"This movie is so star-studded, it's definitely going to flop."

A harsh truth? Maybe. Hollywood has a history of throwing big names together only for the MATERIALISTS to land with all the grace of a failed soufflé (cough Amsterdam cough). But hey, at least this one has a shot at being entertaining, even if it’s just for the memes.

And then, of course, there was the one fan who truly understood the assignment:

"Consider me materially invested. 🎬"

Same, bestie. Same.

Whether MATERIALISTS ends up being a masterpiece or just another overhyped, aesthetically pleasing drama, one thing is for sure: people are already talking about it. Between Chris Evans battling the ghost of Captain America, Pedro Pascal’s scene-stealing charisma, and Dakota Johnson perfecting the art of looking effortlessly done with everything, this movie has the internet hooked.

June 13th might feel far away, but if the internet reactions are anything to go by, this movie will either be a massive hit… Or, at the very least, provide us with top-tier memes. Either way, we win.
