It’s been six years since the TV behemoth Game of Thrones wrapped up its epic eighth season in 2019. However, the book series it’s based on, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, remains unfinished, with the last installment, A Dance with Dragons, released in 2011. Fans have since been eagerly awaiting the sixth book, The Winds of Winter, but it seems Martin might be busy with other pursuits.

The 76-year-old fantasy author recently revealed that he’s opening a medieval-style cocktail bar called Milk of the Poppy this month. The news has left fans both amused and frustrated, as they were hoping he’d focus on finishing The Winds of Winter instead.

Hilarious Internet Reactions

Netizens quickly took to the internet to troll George R.R. Martin for doing everything except finishing the book they've been waiting 14 years for.

"How about just finishing the book instead?" asked a user.

The most common message from Game of Thrones fans to Martin after hearing about his medieval-style cocktail bar - Please finish the book already, it's been almost 14 years!

"He’s just saying it will open this month. It’ll likely be another 5 years until patrons pass through its doors," joked another.

Well, given George R.R. Martin's track record with deadlines, this user hilariously predicts that while he claims the bar will open this month, it might take another five years until people are allowed to pass through its doors. Or maybe so far ahead in the future that by then, even 2025 would be considered medieval!

Putting the pro in procrastination (via @GeraltofGoonia / X)

Nothing much to see here, folks - just George R.R. Martin procrastinating on The Winds of Winter by rolling around in a giant inflatable ball. But hey, maybe that’s just how he gets the creative juices flowing!

"Can't wait to not visit, even if I'm fifty feet away," a user wrote.

Looks like this user isn’t too interested in checking out George R.R. Martin’s new cocktail bar. Maybe finishing The Winds of Winter would change their mind, unless, of course, they just don’t like bars or anything medieval.

"Can you get some real milk of the poppy?" wondered another.

Given the name of the cocktail bar, many users are curious if they’ll actually get a drink made from the poppy flower. Well, just a few days left until we find out!

It seems George R.R. Martin has stirred up mixed reactions by opening a bar instead of releasing the book - just like he does in his stories! Fans now hope he'll finally announce his 6th book on the bar’s opening day. Fingers crossed!
