House of the Dragon Season 3 has reportedly started filming. This comes after the Game of Thrones prequel aired its second season a few months back. As per MovieWeb, the principal photography began earlier this month at Warner Bros. Studios in the United Kingdom.

The series is planned for release in 2026, though a final timeline has yet to be confirmed.

The gap between releases has consistently been a cause of annoyance to Game of Thrones viewers. Binge-watching prior seasons has almost become a necessity for fans to catch up on the storyline by the time the next one comes out.

The initial season of House of the Dragon aired on October 23, 2022. Season 2 was then divided into two installments: June 16, 2024, and August 4, 2024.

This two-year period is the briefest the filmmakers have taken so far. Since the second season has been available for months now, the third season's production has begun. Interestingly enough, it was approved at the same time as the second season.

The wait has finally resulted in fans airing their discontent. Using memes and humor, the wait for this Targaryen masterpiece is an epic in itself.

Social media reacts as House of the Dragon season 3 begins filming

Fans noted that as production has just started, the new season of House of the Dragon will take years to be released. Users joked that the long time gaps between seasons make them need to rewatch the previous episodes just to remember the plot, which eventually kills the hype.

A fan @breathingcinema commented:

"Wait they have just started filming?? So it's gonna take another 2 years to come out? Goddamm it! man."

Another netizen @Noobface lamented:

"I miss when shows would immediately pick filming back up as soon as the previous season was releasing. Instead they drag it out so we’re forced to rewatch previous seasons each time a new one comes out."

One user @gv49ers mentioned:

"This show killing any buzz it had with a weak ass second season and now a long gap before season 3."

While some users made fun of House of the Dragon having dropped off a cliff, others remarked that they'd likely be 50 years old before the third season is released. A few more mocked the delay, wondering why filming only begins now and what the crew has been doing all this time.

A netizen @kdot89_ thinks:

"I’ll be 50 by the time this sh*t drop, and btw this sh*t better be some heat, they owe us."

A user @astroboihero commented:

"I was expecting to see a “has finished filming” tweet."

One fan @thefilmstans quipped:

"Begun? They did nothing for the last two years?"

Some of the fans teased that they can't wait to watch their beloved characters die—once more. Others poked fun at George R.R. Martin's glacial writing speed, remarking that it's not as if he has other things to do, indirectly asking him to finish The Song of Ice and Fire books already.

Meanwhile, one of the users seriously asked how people are still watching House of the Dragon following what transpired with Game of Thrones.

A user @The_Epic_Scenes went on to hilariously mention:

"Can’t wait for my favorites to die again."

Another fan @ZaqueoDeLeon poked fun, saying:

"Can't wait for 2029 🥰"

A netizen @Johnnykiz_ roasted the creator, saying:

"Good. Gotta keep George busy… not like he has anything else he could be working on *cough*."

Meanwhile, a user @Morganswenp asked:

"You guys are actually watching this after what happened with GoT ???"

For now, we gotta hold on to this latest development until filmmakers think of doing something else with House of the Dragon.
