The IFPI recently released its Global Recording Artist Chart for 2024, and the biggest rappers in the world are still calling the shots. Drake, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar, respectively, occupy the top positions in Best Selling Rappers.
Users had amusing remarks ready for the comment section as soon as the list hit X.
"Need to know who is relentlessly streaming Eminem?" enquired one X user.
Not sure if they want to stay up with the statistics or if they're confused. In any case, we don't have an answer for either. Let's move on...
Taking a jab at everyone, one user said:
"Dot couldn't even outsell 50 year old Grandpa Em with the Drake stimulus 😭"
First and foremost, you need to choose whose side you are on.
One user, thinking they really did something there, said:
"Kendrick can’t even outsell a rapper who’s prime was 25 years ago 😭"
For the uninitiated, this individual is claiming Eminem's prime was 25 years ago. Sometimes, jokes write themselves.
Out of nowhere, a user mentioned:
"McDonald’s is the best-selling restaurant of 2024."
And...?
Sorry to Lamar, but this user thinks:
"Drake is responsible for #3 basically too 😂"
This individual seems to have a personal grudge towards Lamar, despite the fact that he swept Grammys.
Drake: The man who never leaves the charts
Aubrey "Drake" Graham occupies the second spot on the IFPI Global Recording Artist Chart for 2024. Mind you, he did not even release a new album last year.
Drake has been the best-selling male artist in the world for a whole decade now.
How does he manage it? Savvy partnerships, being just controversial enough to keep the buzz going, and, of course, a battalion of devotees.
His secret is that back catalog. Every club DJ, every Instagram story, every break-up playlist—somehow, there's always a Drake track on it.
Eminem: The time traveler of the rap game

Eminem just rose from 14th in 2023 to 8th position in 2024.
That's a big comeback, fueled by his newest work The Death of Slim Shady, which had people arguing if it was a funeral or if he's just resurrecting again.
At the age of 52, Marshall Mathers is attracting 88 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
He's been in the game for nearly three decades, and still, nobody's out-rapping him.
Just imagine being in your fifties and still making the younger generation anxious.
Kendrick Lamar: The thinker's rapper
K-Dot returns to the top 10, at ninth position after a short break.
Kendrick didn't release an album in 2024, but his past work kept fans in a chokehold.
For someone who wasn’t even on the IFPI list in 2022, this return is proof that good music has staying power. Or maybe people just finally caught up to what he was saying two albums ago.
Taylor Swift: The industry’s final boss

And then, there’s Taylor Swift. Again. For the fifth time, she’s been crowned the IFPI’s Global Recording Artist of the Year, making history in the process.
Her album The Tortured Poets Department in 2024 was the biggest album to be streamed in a day, with 5.6 million copies sold globally.
It topped the Global Album Chart, Global Vinyl Album Chart, Global Streaming Album Chart, and Global Album Sales Chart.
And who could forget The Eras Tour? With Lover, 1989 (Taylor's Version), Midnights, and Folklore all breaking the top 20 of the 2024 global albums, she single-handedly dominated the industry.
