Since the original Avengers have retired, many younglings are trying to recruit themselves into the elite squad. Charlie Cox seems to be another aspirer who seems to have this dream.
Charlie Cox, plays Matt Murdock, the visibly impaired lawyer by day and a superhero Daredevil by night. According to the MCU, Daredevil is part of the Defenders, a team of superheroes that includes him, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand/Iron Fist.
But ever since the success of Daredevil's solo TV series, it seems like Charlie Cox believes he deserves a promotion. Cox is pulling what every character in every rom-com does when they become successful. They decide to ditch their core team for bigger ones.
With a hit Netflix series on his resume and an upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again slated to release on March 4, Charlie Cox believes his character is ready to join the big leagues and deserves a place in the Avengers team. Since there is room for a new member, Cox believes Daredevil is the best option to carry on the legacy.
He said:
"For the sake of the character, I think that would be a wonderful moment... a homage to so much history."
Fan reaction to Charlie Cox favoring Avengers over Defenders
It looks like the Avengers might be gone but their fandom has remained strong. Loyal MCU fans are very protective of their superheroes and won't allow just anyone to associate themselves with the grand squad, even if that someone is a highly intelligent, super-strong vigilante.
The minute the Daredevil alumnus made this statement, Avengers fans assembled. His comments pierced them like one of Hawkeye's arrows and they made it seem like Kang the Conqueror had asked to join the Avengers.
They weren't having it and made sure the world knew it. Their reactions were both bold and hilarious. They put the genius lawyer on trial and doubted everything from his credibility to his intention. In the end, they found him guilty and sentenced him to receive funny comments like these;
One user @ReevesBatverse commented;
"He wants that avengers paycheck."
Another user @SAHtoshiDude decided to fuel the fire by commenting something like;
"I'm not B squad material" -DD
User @DamienPierini decided to roast an Avenger with this mean comment;
"They let Hawkeye in, why not."
One more user @TheAsianWaldo decided to call Murdock on his intentions;
"That's one way to say I want a bigger paycheck."
User @VonjeSama decided not to hesitate and made this comment;
"A blind man in the avengers....nah"
Another one @olds_gym also decided to poke fun at Daredevil with this comment;
"for the sake of the paycheck....Uh, I mean character...."
With reactions like these, let's see if Marvel Studios will ever consider recruiting Daredevil for The Avengers. They might hire Matt Murdock for damage control though.
