Elon Musk is at it again. Just after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation, Musk dropped the zinger of the century. All this serious politics was going on and Trudeau firmly declared that there was “not a snowball’s chance in hell” of Canada ever becoming part of the U.S.
To which Musk replied saying:
“Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so doesn’t matter what you say.”
Yes, Musk called Trudeau “Girl,” and the internet couldn’t even. Like, why? Is this middle school drama or global politics?
Social media users zoomed in on that one word. One X user couldn't help but laugh: “Girl???😭😭😭 why is he acting like a teenager??? 😭”
Another joked, “‘girl’ oh he is a sassy bottom.”
Yet another observed, “‘Girl??’ It’s giving stan Twitter.”
And just when you thought it couldn’t get funnier, someone added:
“‘Girl’ oh he’s one of us.”
A final touch of reality: “53 years old btw.”
A user gave out a pictorial reaction:
"Elon I have a question to ask", a comment read.
"Just imagine him saying girl 💀", another comment read.
Historical tensions between Elon Musk and Justin Trudeau
Musk and Trudeau haven’t exactly been BFFs with the Billionaire taking jabs at Trudeau’s policies for a while.
One of the more notable moments was when Canada’s government decided that online streaming services needed to register for regulatory oversight. Musk went off, labeling the move “shameful” and accusing Trudeau of attacking free speech in Canada.
Things really blew up during the truckers' protests in early 2022. Trudeau invoked emergency powers to handle the situation, and Musk’s response was intense.
He compared Trudeau’s actions to those of authoritarian regimes, suggesting that such measures were a serious overreach.
This passing comment, however, sparked a major backlash.
Musk aimed at Trudeau personally, too. After Trudeau made a speech about setbacks in women's rights, Musk couldn’t resist calling him an “insufferable tool.”
This jab came after Trudeau’s comments about Kamala Harris’s political losses in the U.S., which Musk saw as a little too politically charged for someone leading Canada.
Musk's reaction to Trudeau's resignation
When Trudeau resigned, Musk made it short and sharp. He made a post on X:
"2025 is looking good."
Musk had been saying for some time that Trudeau wouldn't make it to the next election, and the post was very much a prediction come true.
Even his "governor" jab was reminiscent of recent barbs by Donald Trump, who said that perhaps Canada should simply be considered the 51st state.
Trudeau's resignation background
The resignation was announced on January 6, 2025, as a massive shake-up in Canadian politics. He is leaving the leadership position of the Liberal Party and stepping down as prime minister amid increasing dissent within his party and mounting public criticism.
And also, his approach to U.S. relations under President-elect Donald Trump has been a sore spot. The federal elections will take place in October 2025, and so Trudeau's leaving marks the end of a political era that started in 2015.
