Coffee, coffee, coffee, please! Why? Lauren Graham aka Lorelai Gilmore is here. Our favorite Gilmore Girl and Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) have reunited in a new holiday ad for Walmart. The ad has yanked us straight back to the snowy charm of Stars Hollow for the first time since the 2016 revival.
This nostalgic ad features Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson reprising their iconic roles, alongside Sean Gunn as Kirk Gleason. Social media is flooded with screenshots, memes and debates over whether this commercial is just a fun reunion or a harbinger of something bigger (cough another revival cough).
A user took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask a question that we probably won't be answer because same. The post read:
"I love being a Gilmore Girls fan bc why am I crying over a 20-second Walmart ad after an 8-year drought."
Another user, who was in full-on conspiracy theorist mode, said:
"8 years after the Gilmore Girls series finale, we got the announcement of the revival. It’s now 8 years after the revival and Scott, Lauren and Sean are teasing something (with Walmart but still)."
Another user humorously noted: "Can't believe Walmart would make a Gilmore Girls ad without Jess as their employee of the month."
A third user asked: "Why is their chemistry in this lowkey better than it was in the revival?"
A user said: "Seeing Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore again even for just a few seconds for a Walmart ad warms my heart in a way I can’t even explain 🤍 my girl forever!!"
A user summed up the show in a single GIF:
The Gilmore Girls ad
Snowflakes are falling like confetti at a Stars Hollow town meeting, and Kirk Gleason is valiantly attempting to haul an enormous Walmart package through the snow. Yes, Kirk is still Kirk. Lorelai is as full of caffeinated energy and witty banter as ever. She storms into Luke’s Diner demanding coffee—not just any coffee but coffee, coffee, coffee—because some things never change. Luke, channeling his signature grumpy-but-lovable vibe, hands her a Walmart Keurig coffee maker. His quip about her drinking him out of business? Classic Luke.
The scene wraps up with the duo standing together in the town square, snow falling softly around them. It’s so cozy you can practically hear Miss Patty narrating it to the town in scandalous detail.
Is more Gilmore Girls on the way?
This reunion has reignited hope for fans who’ve been crossing their fingers for more Gilmore Girls content since the 2016 revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Sure, the revival left some questions open (Rory’s baby), but people want to see more of Lorelai, more of Luke, and, you know it, more of Kirk.
Could this Walmart ad be a teaser for future collaborations? A revival of the revival? A spin-off where Kirk runs Walmart corporate?
About Gilmore Girls
Back in the year 2000 taping up to 2007, there was a show called Gilmore Girls. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show introduced us to Lorelai and Rory Gilmore: a single mother and daughter, who are not-your-typical “mother and daughter”, but two besties who spout pop culture references and gorge on junk food.
The setting of the show is a small town, called Stars Hollow, a close-knit community where people are familiar with their neighbors’ names, issues, and, most likely, their preferences in beverages.
Luke Danes, portrayed by Scott Patterson, is the dark-eyed and rough-mouthed owner of Luke’s diner, and Lorelai’s eventual love interest. It was never clear if these two would actually get together; and thus people tuned in, cheered, groaned and sometimes yelled at the other, while they almost got together. It was an ultimate joy when their on-screen romance came to a full circle in the latter 2016 revival.
The revival was all over the place with little ups and downs (hello, Rory), but watching Lorelai and Luke rekindle their love? Totally worth it.
