The poster for the much-anticipated movie I Know What You Did Last Summer has recently been launched, and it's drop-dead gorgeous! This new movie is a sequel to the 1997 classic and is set to release in theaters on July 18, 2025.
Memes erupt as the official poster for the new I Know What You Did Last Summer drops
Fans have eagerly anticipated updates about the remake, which depicts the classic horror franchise with a fresh twist. By "fresh twist, "we mean smartphones. Mixing horror with just the right amount of nostalgia, the movie also brings back fan favorites Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. to the cast.
The movie promises to take us on a joyride for the ages and could turn out to be one of the most gloriously unhinged things to hit theaters in recent years. The I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise has a huge fan following, and the release of the poster sparked a flurry of reactions on social media:
"Captain Hook but live action horror. here for it", joked one fan, drawing parallels between the poster and the cartoon character Captain Hook from Peter Pan (via X / @oceansinatra)
"Joke’s on them, I don’t even remember what I did last summer", quipped another fan (via X / @Asapteejo)
Another fan (@xmanmaxxx) left the internet in stitches when he hilariously mistook the movie for being based on one of Osamason's catchy tracks with the same name:
"No way they made a movie about the osamason song", commented the bewildered fan
With multiple live-action movies and reboots, some fans felt skeptical about the movie's release, fearing the studio would dampen the excitement surrounding their favorite franchise. They took to X to voice their grievances:
"Another day, another Hollywood remake. we will not be watching this" commented one fan (via X / @onBrandVibes)
"Ugh. People really need to come up with some authentic ideas", shrugged another fan (via X / @BolzMary)
"Classic horror making a comeback! Let’s see if it brings the same chills as the original or just another nostalgia cash grab", remarked another (via X / @v_holdam)
Frankly, if the movie were a cash grab, they would have hired a bunch of TikTok stars instead of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. for the roles and could have aptly named it something ridiculous like I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Influencer Edition. We genuinely hope the movie doesn't turn out to be a dud, as watching the fanbase's slow surrender would be peak comedy!
Amidst the frenzy on social media, one fan's reaction undoubtedly took the cake of hilarity as he came up with an absurd alternative name for the movie:
"This gonna go on until the killer is geriatric with Alzheimer's and be titled I USED TO KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER", jested the fan (via X / @Kcin_Point)
Watching the new "I Know What You Did Last Summer" will be like attending a high school reunion, but with much more fun and jump scares. It will be delightful to see the teenage band of misfits tossing logic aside and making one catastrophic decision after another! Because, let's be honest, isn't that what being a teenager is all about? Except for murdering someone, obviously, and then getting blackmailed for it. And then dreading it and running from it!
Phew! That's quite a bit to take in. The anticipation for the movie is already through the roof!
