Ever since Nintendo officially unveiled its latest console - the Switch 2, fans have been buzzing with excitement. With a bigger display, more powerful processor, increased storage, and a sleeker design, the Switch 2 promises to be an upgrade in every way. However, the $450 price tag and exclusive games priced up to $80 have drawn criticism. But it seems Nintendo might have just offered a solution - straight from the President himself!

Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser recently addressed the backlash around the Switch 2’s pricing in an interview with CBC, and his response left fans stunned. When asked about the $450 price tag, Bowser said that those who can’t afford the Switch 2 could always buy the original Switch instead. While he likely meant to highlight continued support for the older console, many fans took the comment as dismissive, sparking even more criticism online.

Hilarious Fan Reactions

While many fans were critical of President Doug Bowser’s statement, others found it downright hilarious and wasted no time taking to the internet to share their amusing reactions.

"If you are poor, stay poor" a user wrote.

Many fans have hilariously read between the lines of Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser’s statement, joking that he was basically saying, “If you’re poor, stay poor.” Let’s hope that wasn’t the intention!

"Imagine Rockstar saying if you can’t afford GTA 6, GTA 5 will be on sale 😭😭😭," joked another.

Considering how Rockstar Games has made fans wait over 10 years for GTA 6, this fan is now praying they don’t take a page out of Nintendo’s book by pricing it too high and saying, “If you can’t afford GTA 6, GTA 5 will be on sale.”

Bowser's statement has reminded gamers of Microsoft’s Don Mattrick, who infamously said during the 2013 Xbox One launch that players could just get an Xbox 360 if they couldn’t afford the new console - a comment that turned into a PR disaster for Xbox.

"Can’t afford a PS5? Just buy your buddies old PS3 instead, I’m sure that would have doubled Sonys stock," a user mocked.

Looks like this user has the perfect solution for anyone who can’t afford a PS5 - just grab your buddy’s old PS3 instead! Problem = solved!

"Lmao or buy a Steam Deck and get them Switch emulators," suggested another.

This user just one-upped Bowser with an even more cost-effective solution - buy a Steam Deck, load it with Switch emulators, and play the games without paying a dime.

Doug Bowser’s message for those who can’t afford the Switch 2 seems to have hilariously backfired, with gamers now questioning whether it’s even worth spending the extra cash over sticking with the Switch 1. So, will you upgrade to the shiny new Switch 2 or ride it out with the classic Switch 1?
