Shrek 5 has just unveiled its initial teaser trailer after keeping fans waiting for more than ten years. Audiences have waited through all the years since Shrek Forever After, which was released in 2010, to witness the big green ogre again.

All the original actors, Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Fiona and Eddie Murphy as Donkey, will revive their roles.

DreamWorks added Zendaya to its production team to introduce fresh elements to the content. She voices Felicia, portraying the daughter of Shrek and Fiona.

The teaser trailer has fans split, with some feeling let down by the animation style, saying it just doesn’t match the vibe of the classic films.

One X user stated:

"I swear Hollywood does this just to piss people off, wtf have you done to them 🤦🏻‍♂️ you can keep Zendaya in it if you please fix the animations."

Fixing what isn't broken? That's a real talent.

Another added:

"Noooooo. It was good where it was… stop milking my childhood memories."

This user just realized nostalgia is a cash cow.

One user highlighted:

"WHO TF PUT THAT SYNTHETIC WIG ON MY GOOD SIS ?????"

Fiona’s hairdresser is fired, effective immediately.

A user said:

"Man they really ignored the good art style lol."

The user just witnessed a crime against visual consistency.

One user went on to say:

"Oh god no. Hollywood will not stop making hot garbage."

Why make something new when we can ruin the old?

Shrek 5 teaser trailer

The Shrek 5 teaser trailer, which was released on February 27, 2025, is brief, punchy, and filled with just enough things to get fans excited.

Clocking in at 27 seconds, introducing us to Felicia for the first time thanks to Zendaya, and bringing our beloved swamp monsters back together once more.

And since Shrek essentially created internet culture, of course, the teaser does not let us down—it shows us the gang scanning through TikTok-esque memes about themselves.

A few highlights from the teaser

Felicia has grown up, too, thanks to Zendaya doing her voice work.

Will she be Far Far Away's next big hero? Or is she only in town to roast her parents and Donkey in the most Gen-Z manner imaginable?

Myers, Diaz, and Murphy are reunited with their signature banter.

But not everyone is stoked on the new animation style—some are throwing shade at the new aesthetic, saying it drifts too far away from the originals.

Plot rumor of Shrek 5

As DreamWorks keeps the good stuff under wraps, gossip is circulating that in this one, Shrek and Fiona will be dealing with parenthood.

Their children may have just discovered a magical gateway that can destabilize the whole kingdom.

So we are looking at interdimensional mayhem, family drama, and Donkey most likely making far too many ill-advised life choices.

Shrek 5 will be released in theaters on December 23, 2026.

Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon direct this film, with Brad Ableson serving as the co-director. The film will combine vintage charm with fresh twists, but will it be up to par for the iconic franchise?

Only time will tell.
