One thing that has stayed consistent for Chicago Bears fans in the last several years is the never-ending supply of material to make memes and roast. From questionable play-calling to bad coaching decisions and from sheer bad breaks to cosmic bad luck, the Bears manage to fill their devotees with fresh new material each week. Well, this Thanksgiving was no different. Once again, they were beaten 23-20 by the Detroit Lions. It was much more than just a routine defeat. It was a perfect example of how to waste precious seconds on the game clock in the critical moments. And indeed, when it comes to entertainment, the internet never disappoints. It did not take long for the internet to start enjoying the catastrophe the game was. A user shared a visual representation of fans with the caption: "Life as QB for the Chicago Bears."

A user stated: "The #ChicagoBears ability to lose in heartbreaking ways is so demoralizing! By no way should that have been close, but to lose like that".
"Caleb Williams realizing he’s a Chicago Bear."
Another user humorously stated: "Attention: If you or a loved one has been diagnosed as a Chicago Bears fan you may be entitled to financial compensation."
A user mentioned: "Bears fans should be used to it by now."
"Probably not a happy Thanksgiving for the Eberflus family", a comment read.
"Relaxing and watching football knowing Eberflus and the Bears can’t ruin our day today", another post read.

The game that gobbled up Bears fans’ hopes

The Bears were on the path to a memorable Thanksgiving Day comeback. Down by three points, with only thirty seconds remaining, people were still optimistic. But rather than calling a timeout to strategize play as any head coach of the team would do, Matt Eberflus threw away valuable seconds. The result? A desperate throw that turned out to be a failure. Game over. Turkey ruined.

This wasn’t just a simple loss, but the football equivalent of never taking the turkey out of the freezer on Thanksgiving morning.

Not even a week later, the Bears said Matt Eberflus had been let go to get out of a messy situation. General Manager Ryan Poles explained the decision with a statement that might as well have read: “Enough is enough.” Poles was quoted by ESPN stating:

“This morning, after meeting with [chairman George H. McCaskey] and [president and CEO Kevin Warren], we informed Matt of our decision to move in a different direction with the leadership of our football team and the head-coaching position.”

Thomas Brown was recently promoted as Chicago’s interim offensive coordinator and will also serve as the interim head coach before the team’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers next week.

Here's hoping Bears fans will be roasting a turkey into the oven next Thanksgiving, not their team. Until then, we will have to stick with the memes.
