Lorde just surprised fans with a preview of fresh music. She shared a 15-second clip of an upcoming song on TikTok. In the video, she is in Washington Square Park in NYC, dressed in a white top and jeans. Suddenly, when the beat drops, she begins to run.

This comes after the singer and songwriter deleted all her content from social media and even wiped her official site. The lyrics featured in the snippet are:

"Since I was 17, I gave you everything. Now we wake from a dream, well baby, what was that? What was that?"

Her last album, Solar Power, was released in August 2021, and ever since then, people have been eagerly waiting for new music. When she recently dropped a hint about a new song, the internet reacted with memes and funny reactions.

Social media users are making jokes about how Lorde is still putting out music about being 17. Fans are also overwhelming social media with reaction photos and GIFs to show how much they are looking forward to her new songs.

Netizens react with memes as Lorde teases new music

Users joke that her music is for people who have never moved on from anything. In the meantime, there is an entire online debate as to whether she is simply "reheating Melodrama nachos" or not—some think so, others don't. And then some are completely prepared to revisit their "being 17" days and perhaps even open Pandora's box of past feelings.

A user @abIondedlife remarked:

"Lorde makes music for people who’ve never gotten over anything in their life and I’m grateful for that."

Dropping a GIF, a user noted:

"About to see tweets saying “melodrama nachos” to describe lorde new music."

A user, probably ready to dig up old graves, said:

"New lorde and it's talking about being 17."

Others flooded the internet with funny GIFs, recording their enthusiasm. Some joked that their headphones would be stuck on repeat with this song. And others couldn't help but laugh at how the singer is singing so unapologetically about being wronged at age 17. A user stated:

"Headphones gonna be on during so many walks this summer with new lorde album."

Another user jokingly stated:

"Blocked gracie abrams on spotify and lorde immediately teased new music."

A user hilariously mentioned:

"Lorde still bringing up things that happened when she was 17."

A chunk of users is in the thick of the "recession pop" debate, claiming that peak 2000s music is officially returning. One of them made a fun analogy, stating that Lana Del Rey is for the undiagnosed, while Lorde fans have found the prescription. Others don't care if she is bringing Melodrama back—they are just along for the ride.

In the light of the 'recession pop' trend, a user said:

"New Lorde music is a recession indicator."

Posting a GIF that's somehow relatable, a user quipped:

"Lorde snippet sounds like shes just doing melodrama again and honestly…what the hell sure."

As per Harper's Bazaar Magazine, the singer is producing alongside producer Jim-E Stack—who has collaborated with artists like Gracie Abrams and Bon Iver before. There is also a possibility she is working with Dev Hynes (also known as Blood Orange), with whom she has been reportedly seen around NYC.
