Why is the TikTok ban being implemented?

The main reason for banning TikTok is that the U.S. government thinks that through the app the Chinese government manipulates the content according to their wishes to get the user data.

Although it is a creative way of gathering information about a country, to think about it what sensitive information is there on the app to steal? Weird dances, dumb pranks, or soul-rattling ASMR videos. Maybe the U.S. government is embarrassed.

The U.S. government also fears that the Chinese government could use TikTok's content recommendation as a weapon to spread misinformation and start propaganda in the U.S.

ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, has until January 19 to divest from the app or sell it to a buyer approved by the government. Failure to do so will result in elimination. Everyone is looking at Elon Musk right now.
