How do you best describe National Ding-A-Ling Day? Let's start with some poetic gestures that describe its great significance. If missing friends were a job, we all would be millionaires, and on National Ding-A-Ling Day, so would telecom companies. It is the day to rekindle old conversations by revisiting old friends. It doesn't only have to be your best friend but anyone from your life that you miss having conversations with.

Sometimes, there are friends we lose touch with because of work commitments, school, or just because life gets in the way. This day is for those people - ring them up and restart those lost conversations. Who knows? Maybe this time you will gain a new connection with an old friend.

Funny reactions from fans to National Ding-A-Ling Day

If you don't want to sing Kenny Roger's I Just Want To Say I Love You after losing a friend, sing Hello by Lionel Richie. Time and distance are just illusions when it comes to friendship. When the bond is strong, these things can't destroy it.

What is National Ding-A-Ling Day?

Sometimes, we see things that don't match their names, and one such name is Ding-A-Ling Day. Without knowing what it is, no one can guess what it is by its name. That's why there is this article. In 1971, a man named Frank Hyle from Chicago came up with this idea when he had some friends over at home. Whilst drinking and having a great time together, he had an epiphany.

He thought people should be kinder and friendlier with one another. Hyle looked up the word 'Ding-A-Ling in the dictionary and found out it meant "one who hears bells in his head." Once these intricacies were sorted, he decided to create a day where people would rekindle old friendships by calling them. This day was created on December 12th.

Hyle placed an advertisement in Chase's Calendar of Annual Events in 1972, and by 1975, almost 900 answered the advertisement and began celebrating the day. $1 was the membership fee and members received a sticker that said "Be a Bell Singer."
