Al Pacino in a horror movie? That’s a sentence we never thought we’d hear. But here we are, living in a world where the legendary actor, known for his intense monologues and occasional Hoo-ah! moments, is now battling supernatural forces.

The first trailer for The Ritual just dropped, and while some horror fans are thrilled, others are less enthusiastic. Featuring Al Pacino alongside Dan Stevens, the film promises an exorcism thriller with a side of Oscar-winning credibility. But judging by the internet’s reaction, not everyone is convinced.

The Ritual trailer: A horror film starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens

The trailer hit the internet with the weight of a thousand possessed souls, and as expected, the horror community had a lot to say. Some were excited about seeing Al Pacino in a new genre, while others were skeptical because, let’s face it, Hollywood has been churning out exorcism movies like they’re on a conveyor belt.

The film follows a priest (Al Pacino) and a troubled young man (Stevens) as they confront a demonic possession. Sounds familiar? That’s because it is. But hey, if The Exorcist can get a sequel fifty years later, why not give Al Pacino a shot at saving souls?

Nothing gets movie fans talking like a fresh trailer, and The Ritual delivered plenty of material. Some viewers were immediately sold on the cast. Others? Not so much. The horror genre is already stacked with religious horror films, and some fans are feeling the fatigue.

One user summed it up best:

"Another exorcism movie? How many more will they come out with?"

At this point, even demons must be asking for a break.

But the real conversation wasn’t just about the horror it was about Al Pacino in horror. The internet took one look at him in priestly robes and collectively decided: Michael Corleone has switched sides.

As one fan put it:

"From mobster to priest."

Now that’s what we call character development.

Then there were those who simply didn’t care what the movie was about. If Pacino is in it, they’re watching. One fan made their stance clear:

"If Pacino is in it, I will watch it."

You have to respect that level of loyalty.

Of course, not all reactions were glowing. Some fans weren’t impressed by the trailer’s production quality, calling it out for looking less like a blockbuster and more like a straight-to-streaming special.

"Looks cheap"

one user declared.

Brutal. But also kind of valid?

And then there were those who took issue with the film’s title. Turns out, The Ritual is already the name of a well-loved underdog horror flick from 2017, and fans were not happy about the name being reused.

"How dare they use the name of this underdog classic?"

At this point, it seems like the real horror story is Hollywood’s ongoing struggle with originality.

Whether you’re here for Al Pacino, skeptical about another exorcism flick, or just confused about why Dan Stevens is in this, The Ritual has already done its job it got people talking.

Will it be a horror masterpiece or just another spooky movie that fades into the void? That remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: even if the film flops, at least we got to witness Pacino, exorcist.

And honestly, that alone might be worth the price of admission.
