Riverdale started off as the on-screen adaptation of the Archies comic strip, but it didn't take long for it to morph into such a whirlpool of silliness that even characters seemed confused about what was going on. Camila Mendes, a.k.a. Veronica Lodge from Riverdale, recently came up with a statement that is equal parts true and hilarious.
She stated:
"We did everything you could imagine on RIVERDALE. Every genre, we played with. Every time someone says something, I’m like, ‘Yeah, we did that on RIVERDALE!’ Superheroes? Yeah, we did that! Harvesting organs? Yeah, we did that!”
To be fair, Camila did not exaggerate. She was just straight up spitting facts. The statement neatly summed up Riverdale's journey from a teenage drama TV show to an interdimensional pathway to the multiverse where anything and everything was happening all at once.
Hilarious fan reactions to Camila Mendes' Riverdale admission
To be fair, fans did agree with Camile wholeheartedly. From superheroes to harvesting organs, from zombies and gargoyles to serial killer arcs, cults, and musicals—you name the plot, and there's a good chance that at one point Riverdale would have dedicated an episode to that madness.
All that was left to do was tackle world hunger while sitting in Pop Tate's Chock'lit Shoppe. Although we do admit that having Jughead on your team while trying to tackle world hunger can be a tough ask!
Nonetheless, fans had a field day on the internet as they got to do their two favorite things at once: reminisce about Riverdale while roasting it at the same time:
"Broo riverdale was a acting bootcamp they did everything," joked one fan (via @frncscntn/X)
"Riverdale wasn’t a show, it was a multiverse on steroids," quipped another (via @CineSphere_X/X)
When Riverdale ended with the 7th season, fans had initially been sad about it. But Camila's statement hit fans like a speed bump and reminded them of all the absurd storylines they had to sit through. Some fans started questioning Camila if the show existed in a dimension of its own where logic didn't apply while poking fun at the writers of the show for coming up with such over-the-top plots:
"Riverdale: where every wild idea wasn't just pitched.... it aired!" One fan chimed in (via @sengoku_OG_/X)
"They had the most ridiculous character names. “Papa Poutine”?!" Added another (via @bgianelli/X)
Camila's statement resonated with the audience so much that they started using it as a stick to beat Riverdale with—time travel? Did that. Archie shirtless for no reason? Did that. Unnecessary bear fights? Did that. The joke practically writes itself.
"Bad writing ? yeah we did that," added another fan (via @celebratelosers/X)
In case you forgot and have a primacy bias, here's a perfect depiction of the show that was posted on X by a fan when the show finished airing:
"This show went from a murder mystery, to musical, to wakanda, to the vampire diaries, to Fantastic 4, only to end as a simple romance show?"
Amid the mass trolling, one fan chose to see the silver lining instead as he focused on the writers' reasoning:
"I love how this show took advantage that it was based on a comic book, so anything could happen," commented the fan (via @WreckingRoy/X)
At the end of the day, Riverdale wasn’t just one TV show—it was The Walking Dead, The Avengers, and Man vs. Wild all rolled into one. The show ran for 7 seasons but still couldn't figure out its identity for itself. And now, thanks to Camila Mendes, we have official confirmation that the cast was just as confused as we were.
So the next time someone mentions a wild plot twist from any show, just channel your inner Veronica Lodge, shrug, and say, "Yeah, we did that on Riverdale."
