Tom Hiddleston just smacked us with "I don't know." And not in an I don't say anything because Marvel snipers are stalking me sort of way. Just a simple, honest, shoulder-shrugging "I don't know."

Fans were waiting outside a UK theater when someone asked the question: "Will you be in the next Avengers films?" And as per reports by Comicbookmovie.com, Tom gave them a hot plate of maybe, maybe not.

One user stated:

"Tom let me assure you this if you’re not back atrocities will be committed."

A user went on to say:

"Worst part is. He may actually not know. 🤣🤣 Damn marvel"

A user joked:

"“i don’t know” mind u filming starts next month."

One post read:

"Everyone knows he exists except him 😭😭😭"

A user declared:

"Guys been apart of marvel since 2011 I think when the first Thor came out. He is used to not spilling the beans."

Meanwhile, a user stated:

"LOL At this point nobody knows who’s coming back. Not excited for this stuff at all."

Tom Hiddleston in future Avengers films

Marvel fans do not accept "I don't know" as an answer. They accept it as a riddle to be cracked, a conspiracy to be uncovered. And so, of course, the net detectives were on the case.

The latest speculation is that Loki will not die in Avengers: Doomsday but may, instead, level up from "God of Mischief" to something even more universe-busting.

Some say he could solidify his rule over the End of Time. Others whisper about a Thor-Loki reunion. Either way, Loki’s name is lowkey staying on the list, whether Marvel says so or not.

Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars – Where does Loki fit?

In the upcoming Avengers movies, Doctor Doom is gearing up to be the next big thing, and Loki knows how to deal with power-hungry overlords.

And by "handling" we mean making things ten times worse before coming to the rescue.

If Marvel is building toward a Secret Wars battle royale, you can be damn sure Loki is going to be in the thick of it.

Loki's development in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Let's take a trip down memory lane.

2011: Loki begins as Thor's grumpy little brother, having temper tantrums and invading Earth just to get the attention of Odin.

2013: Nearly redeems himself in Thor: The Dark World before pretending to be dead.

2017: Full-on anti-hero mode in Thor: Ragnarok, cracking jokes and assisting in saving Asgard (after completely betraying Thor a couple of times).

2021: Disney+ drops Loki and suddenly, he's repairing time itself and befriending his own variants.

2023: Season 2 concludes with Loki being the one to hold the multiverse together. Like, from being a sniveling little trickster to being the most vital being to exist.

The future: More Loki or nah?

Currently, Loki Season 3 is not confirmed, but Hiddleston has been sending out signals that he's far from finished playing the character yet.

And also, his cameo in What If? Season 3 confirms that Marvel continues to see enough Loki-shaped opportunities.

So, what does that portend for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars? Marvel is staying mum, but the fans have already done it for them and written Loki back into the MCU whether Kevin Feige wants it that way or not.

All we have for now is Tom Hiddleston's "I don't know."
