Happy Gilmore 2 finally dropped its first trailer on March 18, 2025. The sequel to the 1996 comedy hit, Happy Gilmore, features Adam Sandler once again playing his legendary role as the eccentric golfer, Happy Gilmore. Following a long break, Happy is happy to return to the golf course.

Sandler had initially hesitated to reprise his iconic character but was convinced by his old pal Tim Herlihy. He appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon over the summer and said:

“People have been asking me for a long time, ‘Do 'Happy Gilmore 2,’ and I was always like, ‘Nah, I’ll only let you down.’”

He only agreed to reprise the role after an exciting idea was conceived.

But as with all things on the web, this one had its fair share of jokes too. Not everyone was convinced by the idea of Adam Sandler returning with another goofy role.

Some users indicated that not every movie needs a sequel, while others implied that you have to be around 13 years old to enjoy a Sandler movie. This follows the ongoing frustration with the increasing trend of sequels and reboots not living up to the originals.

Social media reacts to Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2

Not everyone craves a sequel to everything. Some fans may be thrilled, but many others are fed up with Hollywood's obsession with reboots and sequels.

Several users speculated that Hollywood has run out of ideas, leading studios to keep remaking and rehashing the same concepts instead of producing something original.

A user @1776erRWB stated:

"Why? Is Sandler out of ideas now? They’re just going to ruin it."

Another user @wealth_turtle added:

"20 years too late."

A user @jsgcreator stated:

"Personally I think it’s bad to have a sequel after the original in more than 10 years."

A user @PeanutJiffy suggested:

"I’m convinced that Adam Sandler is just making movies to put his family and friends in. His daughter has literally not acted in anything except his own movies."

Meanwhile, a user @BarryBowe1 simply and bluntly called it a

"Garbage remake."

Some users believe he's too old for the job and that viewers would have to be around 13 years of age to even be able to enjoy seeing him on screen. Others are apprehensive that Happy Gilmore 2 will not remotely match the quality of the original.

A user @Cineaesthetic1 mentioned:

"Adam Sandler is someone you kinda need to be 13 to watch and I mean this in a very sincere and respectful way."

Another user @DillfromTO added:

"Something about that trailer tells me this won't be anywhere near as enjoyable as the first one. Hope I'm wrong."

At this point, everything on the internet seems to get connected to GTA 6 in some way. No matter what happens, the "GTA 6 syndrome" ensures it gets brought into the discussion.

A user @stakocs commented:

"We fr got Happy Gilmore 2 before GTA 6."

Naturally, the roasts came in full force. Many people are questioning whether Hollywood must ruin every classic film by forcing unnecessary sequels and reboots—even the reboots are getting rebooted now.

A user @anotherfilmfan asked:

"Is there a rule at Netflix that every movie needs to look as lifeless as possible??"

A user @SaltyBuc91 has issued a warning:

"If this sucks, I’ll never forgive Adam Sandler for making a sequel to a perfect standalone comedy."
