On December 29, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena, as the air was alive with the buzz of hockey fans, Will Ferrell strutted in, dressed head-to-toe as Buddy the Elf. Yes, THE Buddy the Elf, in all his green-and-yellow glory, fresh out of the iconic holiday flick that’s been living rent-free in our collective heads since 2003.

If you weren’t there to witness this glorious chaos in person, don’t worry. Social media has you covered with flooding timelines of clips and memes of Ferrell being iconic. An X (formerly Twitter) user humorously stated:

"This is what elves do after Christmas."
Another user added: "Fantastic, now some parent has to explain this to their kid."

Sharing a scene from the movie and the latest picture of Will Ferrell, a user said:

"How it started & how it’s going lol."
A user mentioned: "Buddy the elf done fell on hard times."
A comment read: "An unemployed Buddy the Elf? Buddy The Elf with a drinking problem?"
A user stated: "Buddy looks fresh out of prison."
Meanwhile, a user hilariously labeled him as a "South Pole elf."
A comment read: "Bro came from all the way from north pole to watch the game, ultimate legend."

Ferrell goes full Elf mode

Will Ferrell had the signature elf hat, the tights, the whole look—and somehow managed to sprinkle in some rogue I’m kinda over it vibes. The dude was spotted chilling with an unlit cigarette at one point.

For the uninitiated (where have you been?), Elf is that movie you rewatch every December while drowning in eggnog.

The movie was released back in 2003. It is the tale of Buddy, a man brought up by elves, trying to locate his biological father, who resides in New York. Along the way, he spreads chaotic holiday cheer, downs an ungodly amount of syrup, and reminds us all about the true meaning of Christmas.

Fast-forward to 2024, and Ferrell dusting off Buddy’s costume is like a blast of Christmas nostalgia—like finding an old mixtape that still slaps.

Meanwhile, on the ice…

Wait a second, there was actually a hockey game going on as well, wasn’t there? The Los Angeles Kings were up against the Philadelphia Flyers where Kings won the match 5-4. Anze Kopitar, the team captain, was a beast in the third period as he scored two clutch goals.

Warren Foegele also had his moment, scoring a shorthanded goal that had Ferrell (a.k.a. Buddy) on his feet, cheering.

This win was no small feat, either. Kings improved their 12-2-1 home record and have won seven home matches in a row. Considering that they had just faced the Edmonton Oilers in the back-to-back game the previous day, this was a flex.
