The Toxic Avenger was seen emerging from the depths of the Chicago River as it was being dyed green for St. Patrick's Day, and once again it was clear that timing is everything - and so is toxic sludge.

Locals weren't certain whether it was holiday cheer or a cheap horror crossover, but either way, the Toxic Avenger stole the show like a radioactive leprechaun.

With the reboot in cinemas on August 29, this unexpected cameo has fans speculating whether he's advertising the movie or simply in search of a nice, green bath. Reportedly Peter Dinklage will play the role of Toxie in Toxic Avenger.

As soon as the news came out, someone took to their X account and commented:

"Who? They're just making super heros up at this point!"

Someone saw the Toxie and announced that Hollywood is just inventing superheroes at this point - and really, can you blame them? A mutant wielding a mop who comes out of a neon green river doesn't sound like a movie so much as it sounds like a fever dream with a marketing budget.

Before we head into the great swamp of fan reaction, let's pause and appreciate how a single green river cruise made Toxie the unofficial mascot of St. Patrick's Day mayhem.

Some fans loved it, some were baffled, and some believed he was a very dedicated cosplayer who made a wrong turn at Comic-Con. Either way, the web lit up quicker than a radioactive glow stick.

Netizens react as ‘The Toxic Avenger’ appears in Chicago’s dyed-green river for St. Patrick’s Day

Others watched the Toxic Avenger on a boat and promptly took to the comment section like it was open mic night - no facts, just one-liners.

"Rockin marketing can’t wait to see what all the fuss was about on the big screen," a user @HomieSanto commented hilariously.
"Why the green painted that’s wired," another user @moeshaimona commented.
"Toxic water perhaps," a netizen @BillyGoat838 sarcastically expressed.

Others leaped into the comments for the heck of it - no idea who the Toxic Avenger is, but prepared to roast, rhyme, and riff as if a sport. They did not come to learn facts - rather, to vibe and go viral:

"Nothing says St. Patrick’s Day like a mutant vigilante chilling in a green river," a folk @pjweb3 commented.
"this shit got better marketing than superman," a user @Nephil_Him hilariously wrote on X.
"Bro want to save America," another netizen @shabrokomagic sarcastically comemnted.

There were a few who were sheer peanut gallery energy - zero context, zero knowledge, just boisterous opinions and jokes for the sake of it.

He might have been a lost mascot or a stunt gone wrong, and they would've still been in the comments wisecracking like it's their day job:

"Looks like a wild journey!," a user @kruqia64 commented.
"Theyre rebooting toxic avenger?," another user @MamoVT wrote.

In short, the Toxic Avenger boat sailing along the Chicago River has technically blurred the boundary between film promo and insane fever dream. If you're a hardcore fan, bewildered visitor, or peanut gallery member only present for the memes, something's certain - St. Patrick's Day will never be the same, nor will that vessel.
